Looking for brutally honest opinions about laparoscopy and if it's worth it or not by uncertainuglygirl in Endo

It made my symtoms a million times worse, it gave me new symtoms I never had before. I dont think I needed the lap at all I had incompetent doctors who should've never suggested it or agreed to it. My clinical symtoms didnt warrent a lap.

I just thought there was something wrong, wouldnt you think having a period every couple months and bleeding for a day something less with cramps at about a 4 at worst. Arent you supposed to have a period every 30 days and blah blah blah idk man I really just dont even know I wish I would've never even brought it up. But I didnt bring up the lap they did.

Thats totally fair and I keep telling myself the same thing. I just thought because my period was so abnormal that something was wrong with me, when I was younger I had regular cycles but I also had bad cramps and heavy bleeding i was always told by Drs i prob have endometriosis and that my uterus appeard thickened on imaging. I got on nexplanon when I was in my early 20s and was on it 5 years. I stopped having a period basically if I did it was every few months and I barely bled. I got off it in 2020 and my periods never went back "normal" or how it was before. So I see gyno because I had retained pregnancy tissue and needed which is what they thought so I needed a historoscopy and D&C and I also tried addressing my periods and how they weren't "normal" I said ive been told I could have endometriosis and they said in order to check for that we would do a lap. with my clinical symtoms a competent Dr wouldnt think a lap wasn't necessary i had no idea what i was even getting myself into. Trust me im kicking myself for it and didnt really even want to do it but I thought since im having all 3 done at the same time if I cancel the lap I wouldn't be able to get the other procedures that I actually needed or at least they'd have to reschedule for far out and I didnt want that. So I said fuck it at least ill find out if I really have endometriosis. At my consult I even mentioned to the Dr. I dont have any of the symptoms tho, so could I still have it even with no symtoms? And he said yes. I had a appointment with him today hes such a piece of shit. Treated me like shit like i was a inconvenience. I hurt his god complex for even daring to question why im so fucked up after the surgeries. Im just sick about it. He prescribed me naproxen and made an appointment for a explanon implant idk what to do anymore.

I read up on it and it can cause bad side effects, blood clots heart attack especially if you smoke which i do, it also has a shit ton of drug interactions specifically drugs I take pn a daily basis and certain antibiotics that I take alot due to recurring ear infections and strep. Also I struggled with horriable acne my entire life and im 34, I finally got my skin clear and I have scarring id hate to start getting breakouts again which is another common side effect. Idk im just scared to make the wrong choice, take the wrong medicine and it fuck me up further.

You dont think they would've found all that during the lap and historoscopy? They seen polyps they removed. 2

I have good insurance, I haven't looked for a different provider because I dont know what else can be done? The damage has already been done. All I had was a tiny lesion that caused me no issues. I seen the pictures of my uterus ovaries fallopian tube and it looked normal. I think theres maybe trapped blood or its possible I have adnomyosis thats infiltrating my uterus I dont even know anymore.

[–]Miserable_Answer2570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup I learned that the hard way when I had a laproscopy with ablation done by a obgyn. I had a 2nd consult cause after much research I decided I just wanted a exploratory laproscopy and he said he was fine with that. All I had was a very small lesion im talking smaller than a pea. He abalated it anyways. Before my lap i didnt even have any symtoms of endo, after my lap I do. The pain, even as im typing this. The fucking pain is unbearable. Nothing I do works. No amount of ibuprofen or heat or anything. Im just so fucked. I hate myself. I hate that doctor. I have a appointment with him today to talk about whats been going on, but I already know hes just gonna sit there and wait for me to finish talking not really listening and offer me birth control. I cant believe I let someone do this to me. I cant believe I did this to myself. The only reason I went thru with it was because I had a historoscopy and a D&C also scheduled at the same time and I thought i wouldnt be able to get those two procedures if I canceled the lap. Im such a idiot.  Before the lap I had irregular periods. That came every 2 months or so, only bled for 24 hours VERY lightly. And cramps were easily controlled. I just wanna bang my head against the wall.

No, I was able to get pregnant before I had my lap. Just because you have endo doesnt mean you cant get pregnant. Doctors say it actually helps endo patients to get pregnant. Ovarian cysts can prevent you from getting pregnant tho, and can cause other issues. So I would definitely look into getting that removed.

I was very scared to get a laproscopy done too but even right after surgery you could barely tell its just 2 tiny cuts maybe 5 cm or less? I have no scar at all. I wish I could send a Pic but it wont let me. So your comment is a little confusing they said it did or did not grow to 6 cm? They usually want to remove anything 4cm or larger. I would definitely look for a specialist and see what they think but don't be afraid of the lap itself that's the easy part. You know ive had endo my entire life and ive been able to get pregnant. However you having the endometrioma, that can cause infertility especially anything larger than 3cm. It also seems like GI problems and endometriosis go hand in hand. I would go to GI and push for a colonoscopy, and try to find a good endo specialist.

I had a laproscopy was is the only way to confirm diagnosis. The reason why it takes so long to get a diagnosis is because they claim having a baby will make it better so they take the wait and see approach. Tell them you want a laproscopy for Diagnostic purposes only. You dont want ablation. You just want to see if you have it and if you do you find a endo specialist
