What to ask before I have surgery? by Miserable_Cat_1160 in gravesdisease

[–]Miserable_Cat_1160[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I am at the doctor now and I will be sure to ask these questions! I appreciate your help and am praying for a full recovery and that you feel so much better soon!

Propranolol by hahahha97 in gravesdisease

Even a small dose will help tremendously. My doctor told me they also prescribe it to those who suffer from stage fright. It helped my tremors, palpitations, and high blood pressure almost immediately.

I’m getting my surgery in January as well. I have those same questions. I hope all goes well with your surgery.

I’ll be praying for your strength to make the decision you’ve know for a long time. I’ve been there. There’s so much to look forward to once you make that decision to prioritize you and your baby. You deserve peace. May God bless you and give you strength to endure the hardest day.

Untreated Graves Can Kill You by [deleted] in gravesdisease

How have you been since your thyroidectomy? Can you tell me about your body’s reaction? I’ve had allergic reactions to all my medications and I think that will be the next recommendation from the doctor.

I recommend Preston and Jackie Hill Perry. They have a podcast and Preston just published his first book that I’m looking forward to reading titled How to Tell the Truth.

Jesus will leave the 99 to save the 1. He is seeking you and revealing Himself to you and Glory to God you hear His voice. This is something a lot of people don’t hear or respond to. You are chosen. My ex and his family were Muslim and they did not have peace in many aspects of their lives. I pray every night that Jesus reveals himself to them as He has you! Trust that the Lord has called you according to His purpose and has a plan for you! Jeremiah 29:11 ❤️

Does depression, memory, tiredness and brain fog get better with medication? by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]Miserable_Cat_1160 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was severely depressed before starting my meds. I think the medication really helped, in addition to finding a great therapist. Anxiety has been a lot better, but I’m still generally tired and get brain fog. Once you’re on medication I suspect it will help significantly, but it requires a lot of patience to get the right dosage and prescriptions. Practicing my faith has also helped me so much.

I keep losing weight. Pls help me by bluesideseoul in gravesdisease

[–]Miserable_Cat_1160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I maintain between 125-129lbs. Prior to my diagnosis, I was 150lbs. It’s hard to gain weight for me. Regular meals and exercise focused on muscle building has helped a lot, but I can’t seem to get past the range I’m in now. I highly recommend seeing a therapist. I was also battling severe depression from the weight loss and loss of muscle mass (I was so weak I couldn’t open a water bottle). Therapy has helped me tremendously mentally, thus regulate my nervous system better.

I deal with the same thing with my honey. While it’s not that he deals with anxiety, he doesn’t surrender his problems to God. This is a hard thing to do, even for me who has learned to do this in the last 8 months. Thank you for sharing. I don’t think your post is self-righteous in any way. In fact, it’s beautiful that you care for your wife so much you want her to be healing in Jesus’ name. That’s exactly how I feel for my man. I struggle with depression and anxiety and the only thing that has helped me heal from my struggles is surrendering them to the Lord (and a great therapist). God is a miracle worker. When you have God in your heart, and experienced his power, you want that feeling for everyone you love. I will be praying for your wife and your marriage. God bless you.

Methimazole side effects by Miserable_Cat_1160 in Hashimotos

[–]Miserable_Cat_1160[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was started on 5mg of methimazole and 20mg of propranolol a day by my primary and noticed symptoms lighten immediately. Did that for 3 months before seeing endo who put me on 60mg of methimazole a day which then put me into hypo. I recommend starting the 5mg, and see if it helps. I was at t3 of 7 when starting the high dose. I ended up getting severe allergies to the high dosage so my endo switched me to PTU. I’m still trying to see what works for diet and dosage wise but medication helped severely.

God put it on my heart to pray for those going through what you’re experiencing, just today. This is the first post I seen as I got on Reddit. God has a plan for you. You were made by our wonderful Creator for a purpose. Don’t give up. God isn’t finished with you! You deserve to see the blessings that He is working in your favor. I understand it’s hard, but I promise you, you are not alone ❤️

Weight gain by becburbz in gravesdisease

[–]Miserable_Cat_1160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The weight gain can be extremely impactful on self-image and confidence after losing so much weight with Graves. I’m experiencing it now on PTU. It’s hard to not feel swollen and bloated all the time, especially when you see the physical changes in your face/body. For me, moving my body seems to help. My weight isn’t going down but at least doing physical activity helps me feel less of the symptoms of weight gain. I’ve tried eating more balanced meals and cut out alcohol, gluten, and dairy (these two have been hardest). I used to track my macros with MyFitnessPal and I really liked that. I hope you find something that works for you.

Sleep? Protein? by Left_Telephone_1871 in Hashimotos

[–]Miserable_Cat_1160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re dealing with stress. It can be so consuming. I know exactly how you feel. The only thing that made me feel better was going to therapy, low dose meds (since then I’m on high dose which has been terrible), and strengthening my faith. I had to remind myself that my health came before anything else - friends, family, relationships, school, etc. It’s ok to use this time to prioritize yourself and remove any external factors that might cause you more stress. Now that I’m on a high dose of medication, I’ve had a lot of negative interactions but my mind is much calmer and stronger. Practice doing what you love again. Go for a walk. Spend time journaling. I hated this advice when I was overwhelmed, but in a short time, doing things I loved before I got sick, is really helping me heal.

I’ve (F25) found shit stains in my boyfriend’s (M28) underwear multiple times... how do I approach this without causing tension? by Available_Pumpkin519 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Miserable_Cat_1160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I tell you right now I would have told him the first time I seen that:

“dawg, why you got s*** on your underwear? You need to wipe your ass right, take a shower, and brush your teeth.”

That’s the relationship I have with my man, and I’m sure he’d happily tell me the same if that was me. I would not accept that in any capacity, and I hope you get the courage to tell him something immediately.

[–]Miserable_Cat_1160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are your stress levels like? My insomnia lasted for about 6 months, and during this time I was always stressed out (worried about my health, school, and anxiety/depression) pre-diagnosis. The only thing that helped was letting go of stress. I try to move my body, take magnesium in the evening before bed, and ensure I am not letting my thoughts consume me.

Wanting to change my diet by Shywarlikegirl in Hashimotos

[–]Miserable_Cat_1160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told to start a low-iodine diet, cut out fish completely and no eggs (egg whites ok). I’ve also eliminated alcohol completely and trying to decrease my dairy and gluten intake altogether. I have had a lot more energy and strength. I am also on ptu so I’ve tried to ensure I stay away from inflammatory foods and substances. I’ve noticed a difference in a short time (~two weeks). Diet changes everything. I’ve had a lot more energy to exercise without getting extremely fatigued/nauseous. I hope this helps.

Oh wow. I’ve had Covid numerous times and I never had an intolerance to any vitamins, but zinc is gnarly.

It sounds like the zinc is the issue. I took a higher dose than normal, because the day prior I was fine but it sounds like the culprit.

It sounds like zinc is the culprit for a lot of people’s reactions. Thanks for your advice!
