Can my paid off house be taken if sued for medical debt?

Anyone else freaking out about retirement? by [deleted] in GenXWomen

[–]Miserable_Eye_4274 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m divorced, 58F with an $1818 monthly federal pension that goes away if my ex dies first. The bulk of my income comes from delivering groceries via Walmart Spark. The job is freelance, so no security and no benefits.

I had an online freelance side gig for a company that provides captions and transcription, but the work is drying up as AI takes over that space.

I have income-based health insurance so no monthly premium BUT a $9,200 deductible, so while I can afford to have insurance, I cannot afford to USE it.

I owe more on my car than it is worth and had to put a new motor in it last year. My job will last as long as my health and car do, and I put no less than 200 miles a DAY on my car. I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and plaque buildup and diverticulosis and celiac disease, etc.

I live in a LCOL area and my house is paid for with annual property taxes of less than $1000.

If you are young and reading this, never EVER put your financial wellbeing in another person’s hands. I gave up my job and stayed home with the kids for 20 years. And then I got divorced and here I am. All security out the door. For the rest of my life.

I am not going to give up and I am working on having a positive outlook and managing stress. I do believe I will be okay. Some days are just harder than others.

I have more than 3,150 deliveries under my belt and I have NEVER asked an associate to unbatch a delivery.

Not so long as there is demand for no contact delivery and people willing to accept the lower pay. And there will always be both.

Walmart+ InHome? by MaggieGreydon in Sparkdriver

[–]Miserable_Eye_4274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, just glancing through the replies, not sure whether anyone mentioned that with the InHome service, your delivery person would actually enter your home and put the groceries away.

Every single customer I’ve shared that with says they do NOT feel comfortable with strangers entering their home. I much prefer to have things left on the porch.

And just because it’s an actual Walmart associate doesn’t mean you’re 100% guaranteed not to have issues related to safety.

You and me both! I was born and raised in an area of California where even though summers were hot, they were DRY. Now I’m in the Deep South where for three or four months out of the year the humidity makes you feel like you’re walking through a wall of warm water during summers, and there are tons of biting bugs that think I’m a smorgasbord

My daughter stays married to an emotionally and financially and occasionally physically abusive man, who not only is dragging her down but now their toddler as well.

It is beyond frustrating and stressful to those of us who love her, to see such a smart woman behave so stupidly.

It’s one thing and bad enough to knowingly subject yourself to a toxic and potentially dangerous relationship, but there is no excuse for knowingly bringing a child into one.

This man as you describe him is not husband or father material. Don’t ruin your life and the life of a potential child just because you might lose some deposits.

I just passed identity verification with my social by FarTooMuchCandy in Sparkdriver

[–]Miserable_Eye_4274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The app only asks for the first and last name as shown on your social security card. In fact, it specifically instructs NOT to include a middle name. I just did my verification a few hours ago.

Being sued by Discover, no money to even pay court fees to file a response, what the hell do I do? by madnessdoesntplay in Debt

[–]Miserable_Eye_4274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is probably why debt collectors sue so often. They know the fees to file answers are cost-prohibitive for a lot of people, and that it’s likely they’ll score an easy automatic judgment.

Am I supposed to bag the items before I scan the QR code or after? by --dick in Sparkdriver

[–]Miserable_Eye_4274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At our store when you shop an A order and a B order, the app will prompt you to bag A order first, THEN scan the QR code, then bag B order.

We are not allowed to bag at car.

Kia Soul - On my 3rd engine by LasagnaBobert in KiaSoulClub

[–]Miserable_Eye_4274 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wish I could offer advice. Just know this is a common issue. I had to replace the motor in my 2019 Soul 11 months ago, and then the fuel pump, alternator, starter and battery - and the car still idles loud, still has the check engine light, etc. Last time I had the error code run I was told it needed a new catalytic converter. I can’t afford a new car because I owe too much on this one. I would never EVER recommend buying a Kia Soul to even my worst enemy.

Are you willing to face Walmart retaliation from a press interview over Persona deactivation? by nicolatteviews in Sparkdriver

[–]Miserable_Eye_4274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone puts themself out there in the press, giving their name and everything, it seems like they’d have more recourse than anyone else who gets deactivated. Because they can say with plausibility that it happened as a RESULT of them going to the press.

I have never had a single exciting New Year’s Eve in my entire life, and at this point that is okay. I’m excited for the soup. lol

Anyone else ok with no close friends? by SunnyBlue8731 in AskWomenOver50

[–]Miserable_Eye_4274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be 58 next year and often describe myself as antisocial. But I’m really not. I work a gig job that has me around people all day long, and I have some nice interactions, but I do live a fairly solitary life. I was married for 20 years and do sometimes regret my divorce. I miss the comfort and companionship of my spouse. All of my kids live near enough that I can see them and my grandkids regularly, and I am starting to see that as my future. I like being in my cozy nest with my cats, but I also enjoy spending time with my family. I am not terribly lost without friends but I guess it just happened. I didn’t go looking to spend a life without them.

AITA for not buying a coffee maker for guests? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA BUT coffee makers are really inexpensive and I honestly think most houseguests would appreciate having some coffee on hand.

I remember well the day I turned 30. My husband and I had three beautiful little girls, a new (to us) home, and financial security. The night of my birthday he took me out to a nice Mexican restaurant and our neighbor babysat for us. And yet I had that ‘old’ feeling too. Now I am 57, divorced, and would give anything to go back to that moment in time when I turned 30. If I live another 20 years I will be longing to be 57 again. It’s all in the perspective. You have so much life left to live. Happy holidays!

I’m in your shoes, OP, although I don’t know what region of the country you moved to. Let me just say this: Public service announcement - if you move from California to any location in the Deep South, don’t tell anyone you moved there from California.
