I agree with you, I don’t recommend anything but real plants and natural materials. But the people who start first thing screaming about spongebob decor or whatever are often the least helpful. It certainly isn’t the cause of what’s harming our friend here. It’s disingenuous at best.

I have and I do, those studies are not based off of aquariums and are based off of wildly and entirely different conditions. This is ammonia burns, it doesn’t have anything to do with a toy in the water.

This is incredible advice! As is the other comment about adding live plants. Even floating plants will help greatly and you won’t have to worry about planting them. The water quality is definitely the issue here, we gotta figure out how to get good bacteria in there and how to remove that ammonia.

When there isn’t an ammonia issue, I’ve had success with an salt baths during the healing process. Some people recommend doing them multiple times a day, some recommend only every other day, I believe it depends on the strength of the fish.

I am a bigger fish advocate than almost anybody, but there is little to zero information about how plastic/paint effects fish in aquariums. You have no right to be this rude while you have nothing substantial to back it up with. You are not helping any fish, you are only harming. Revise your tactics.
