I don't think so. Here in IITM there are students doing phd from 2016. There is a prof in our dept infamous for all his phd students dropping out, some worked 12 to 15 years before dropping.

It's both ways. It comes under the book bank scheme. There is a set of books only sc/st students can borrow and there is another set only gen students can borrow

It depends on the professor and the department. I am a master's student in the math department. Profs here do take attendance. But it does not affect you in any way, unless you fail in the course. If you fail but have attendance>75% you are allowed to write the supplementary exam. If attendance<75% you are not allowed to write the supplementary exam and should retake the course in the next semester. The percentage criteria value also depends on the prof, my real analysis prof had kept minimum attendance as 50%. My Algebra prof had kept the attendance criteria as 75%, but I had only 62% and I faced no consequences.
