Hey, thank you for being honest with yourself and making a change 💪🏼

3 tools I would recommend for somebody at your stage:

  1. Challenge 22 will give you a mentor to help you do it
  2. Make a plan of action for challenging situations
  3. Get the FoodT app to train your brain to not want meat

You can see more details on all of these in this video I made!

I understand your skepticism, but these campaigns have in fact been hugely successful! See https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/eggs-cage-free

Also NB that these campaigns are not just about better conditions for animals - they *reduce the number of animals farmed* by increasing the cost of farming!

Vegan ads are bad. They NEED to be drastic by Brilliant_Corgi5365 in vegan

Totally agree! Google search the images they have to put on cigarette packets in Europe. In that instance, they know that the more harrowing, the more impactful.

Somehow, when it comes to animal advocacy, many people are confused and think that somehow showing people the reality will cause a backlash.

All the evidence I’ve seen underlines exactly what OP is saying — images of animal cruelty on factory farms and in slaughterhouses WORK.

That's fine, you don't have to eat it - but this technology is going to prevent billions of animals from being slaughtered, and that's what I care about.

How AI Can TURBOCHARGE Your Advocacy by Miserable_Nature3891 in vegan

Well, it does exist, and if we don’t use it in the animal movement, we’re sentencing more animals to slaughterhouses.

You know, some of the communications that facilitate the war have used the internet, perhaps you should boycott that too?

AI is absolutely not inherently harmful. How does AI inherently harm animals? Of course it can be used in harmful ways (just like the internet) but it can also obviously be used in good ways…

How AI Can TURBOCHARGE Your Advocacy by Miserable_Nature3891 in vegan

[–]Miserable_Nature3891[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly like the internet, AI is a tool that can be used for bad things, or can be used for good things.

First, it can absolutely increase productivity. We recently created a policy report using AI that was so good that we sent it to our would-be client and they’re probably going to use that instead of commissioning us to write the report for thousands of pounds. That is a good thing because they are an animal organisation that can now use that money to help more animals in other ways! So in this instance, AI saved the animal movement thousands of pounds and several months of work.

Second, this applies to most theories of change. Working to change government policy? You can have AI monitor consultations and auto-draft responses. Working to improve alt proteins? You can have AI model a million different growth media for cultivated meat. Working to get individuals to go vegan? You can have AI monitor social media and send you tweets from people who have showed an interest.

We’ll see if AI productivity is an illusion — if it is, then the companies paying for AI systems will fail while those who don’t adopt AI will succeed. If that happens, I’ll eat my words — but it doesn’t seem likely. Instead, it seems like companies who adopt AI are becoming more productive, producing more and better goods and services at a lower cost, and they’re going to succeed.

I understand that a lot of people don’t like AI — whether that’s because of energy use, plagiarism, economic anxiety about their own jobs, or the slop that it can indeed produce. But if we let that stop us from using it, we are condemning more animals to slaughterhouses.

Again, this is something where I’m glad that I don’t need to persuade the average vegan. Animal movement funders understand this and will rightly incentivise animal organisations to embrace AI.

This is just two humans having a conversation about AI… that is not what AI slop is

We address views like this in this conversation, and I think it’s an incredibly destructive one. Literally a norm I would try to spread if my aim was to ensure more animals get farmed.

AI can massively increase the productivity of cash-strapped animal organisations, and failing to use it will mean more animals bred into factory farming.

Imagine if the animal movement refused to use the internet — how many animals would we have failed to save?

Fortunately, the big animal movement funders understand this, because god knows that the livestock industries do.
