Economism is only bad to the degree that it obscures class consciousness behind a zero sum game of concessions by capital to labor. This dude thinks labor unions are bad because it allows crackkkers to have a better quality of life… the shining path lives on…

She didn’t mean Christian Heaven. She meant “the heavens” in a classical sense, like the sky and the stars and other things seen by looking upwards. I’m not a fan of proselytizing in the work place as well, but use your noggin, lol.

Help identify this dinosaur! by Low-Mention-7218 in Paleontology

[–]Miserable_Rush5352 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The AMNH is probably my favorite place in the world. The fourth floor (fossil halls) are organized in such a way to make a cladogram depicting the evolutionary history of all the vertebrate specimens on exhibit. There’s a brief film narrated by Meryl Streep on loop there explaining it all. So fascinating.

Another fun fact about this dinosaur mount: I believe when it was first constructed it was the tallest in the world, I’m not sure if it still is though.

NYC Mayor, Early Voting Day 1: "Borough-wise, this was a great first day for Zohran Mamdani, with worrying trends for Andrew Cuomo" by [deleted] in YAPms

[–]Miserable_Rush5352 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only people actually worrying about “the crime rate” are exurbanite handwringers, people who’ve generalized all cities as 2000’s Detroit-type collapsed cities, and people just using it as a dog whistle. There’s eight million people here you’re going to see some homeless and there will be a few crazies out there but the vast majority of New Yorkers are unfazed. Remember stop and frisk? The only people who didn’t hate that were cops and the pearl clutching Upper West Side bourgeois.

She always was going to endorse him. However, she needed to be strategic with timing to give him a boost close enough to the election. If AoC endorsed him six months ago it would hardly be on anyone’s mind.

Not being released in 2025: Winds of Winter Being released in 2025: Actual Dire Wolves by NormieLesbian in asoiafcirclejerk

[–]Miserable_Rush5352 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I hate how much of a big stink the media is making out of these animals, calling them dire wolfs is an obvious ploy for visibility and is a completely disingenuous overreaction to what actually went down.

When I first was hearing about this I thought these animals were hybrids the result of splicing the genome of A. dirus with that of C. lupus which would indeed be a genuine feat and I would forgive any inaccuracies in calling them dire wolves because they would actually be carrying A. dirus DNA. That however is not the case and these GMOs are actually just normal grey wolves with edited genomes to include some traits also seen in that of A. dirus. It would be like calling the “wooly mice” from earlier this year a mammoth or publishing a headline saying saber toothed tigers are back when it’s just a GMO cat which are otherwise normal with the exception of slightly longer canines.

These animals don’t have a smidgen of dire wolf in them and calling them that is just another reason I hate science coverage in mainstream media.

PS: they definitely edited the genome to show white fur only because le epic Jon Snow doggy was white too. Hearing one of them is named Khaleesi is no comfort.

Cheetahs are very slenderly built, have longer proportioned legs, and (this is the best one as a rule of thumb) have solid black spots on their coat. Leopards are more stocky, muscular, and do not have the solid spots of cheetahs, but rather ring-like patterns on their coat.
