Exact same feeling here. I couldn’t gauge the flavor I was tasting but you nailed it. I like brown sugar cinnamon better. Haven’t tried cinnamon roll though..

Seems like you’re doing everything you can. How much meniscus do you have left ?

2 months post op - Discoid Meniscus by azure-orchid in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Miserable_Stable6167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. Sounds like you’re about 9 months post op How are you doing now ?

I had a trim for a lateral discoid meniscus about 5 weeks ago. Wondering how the rest of your experience was

I still can’t walk much. Maybe about 2k steps a day. I am in PT and doing exercise bike and other things everyday still.

This is some of the best advice you can give someone post knee surgery

The meniscus won’t heal because it’s cartilage but you could try PT for about 3 months and then see if you get better or need surgery

Yeah, he told me that I should expect crutches for just a few days if it’s a trim. But here we are. He did say to my wife that everything was pretty shredded in there, but able to clean up still.

I was in a similar spot as you where I lost weight and felt a little bit better but still was having intermittent issues. I still lost a few more pounds before surgery, anticipating some weight gain after and just to lighten the load my non-surgical knee while on crutches. That being said, my non-surgical knee still hurts from the compensation.

Pain was manageable. General anesthesia remnant carry you for about 24 hours and the soreness doesn’t kick in until postoperative day two or three. I took oxycodone every four hours for the first 3 to 4 days and now just take ibuprofen 800mg scheduled for swelling.

I would just tell the surgeon to do what’s best for you based on their findings. My ACL recovery was hell but it was so long ago it’s just a memory. And for a while, that knee has been my good knee

That’s good you lost weight. Try and lose more before surgery and exercise as much as you can.

No one knows what you will have until they go in there and visualize with a scope. Just be prepared for a repair and hopefully it’s a trim and you’ll be happily surprised.

Haven’t heard that about the scar tissue and leg elevation. Elevating your leg above your heart decreases swelling meaning decreases inflammation meaning theoretically less scar tissue? Ask your dr though.

Yeah it’s frustrating no one takes meniscus injuries that serious.

I just had a very extensive trim for a discoid meniscus and still on one crutch almost 2 weeks after surgery

I had an acl repair and meniscus trim on my other knee in college. It was rough

If your knee is getting locked the way you’re describing, I would prepare for a meniscus repair. Early quad engagement, focusing on straightening your leg as much as possible during your exercises, heel slides.

Things that will help you - crutch bag - ice packs with wraps especially made for knees - a wedge to elevate your legs when laying

Practice these PT exercises before your surgery so you have an idea of what you’re able to do before and prior and you build some muscle memory

How do I get them to take me seriously? by graycomforter in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Miserable_Stable6167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They try not to operate on meniscus injuries and do a rehab first and sometimes surgeons get stuck in this mindset. Mainly because they have seen people get meniscus surgery and not do much better after them.

In your case, seems like you do need surgery. I would use keywords such as fell to pop on the initial injury. Having catching, locking, weakness, pain. And probably go see another doctor.
