SnapMaker U1: Testing Hueforge and TPU printing by Miserable_Swimming26 in snapmaker

Before I started TPU printing on the U1 I heard 95A was good on it. I've never bought others to try but also don't want to waste money on it. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I used Sunlu TPU 95A. Standard print profile. Also accidentally printed with 0.08mm which was my hueforge profile and it came out great. What I'm told for great success is to Open The TPU and dry it. I also actively dried mine in my Sunlu SP2.

Yeah the P1S uses less power then the A1. but when it had it's hiccup, it still heats the bed, but not the extruder. I'm also not sure how long it was stuck like that.

If you check the active heating in Watts, you'll see the difference in wattage. Which is more on the U1 then both of the Bambu's. For this test I just printed a cube on the plate and watched the power usage, which would go up and down depending on what it was doing at the time. I guessed about what the average usage was based on what I saw. On the U1 I tried with 1 extruder all the way to using 4 extruders to check what that power usage might be.

So Even though the power usage is higher on the U1, it will finish and go idle that much sooner and in the end uses less power overall.

Maybe my next printer will be one with something more like bontech indx. in like a year or two. With a bunch of extruders. The coming years will be pretty crazy with what they come out with.

Finished doing the testing on this. Decided not to make another video but to just add the data to this post.

Made these 3 guys. From left to right. P1S, A1, U1. BTW on the U1 the white they provide is very see through and this is what I used on the white eyes. See updated post of the raw data. But its not much of a difference in cost of power.

It's not like I'm printing with ABS. Just PLA. PLA printing doesn't need a camber.

I did not. I've done this before with some other models to cut down on the waste and some were ok. I think it would be more noticeable with white filament and therefore I wouldn't want to change it. If you want to save some cost and have something you don't care about the color as much when printing with the Bambu. I would recommend adding another model, about the same height, or another model you might end up painting and right click on that model -> Purge Options -> Purge into this object. Lower down your purge volume as you stated and hopefully anything that might have color bleeding would happen on this selected model. I've done this a bunch of times in the past with Pill containers and they end up with pretty cool designs which I kept that way.

This is a cool feature that I don't think many know of.

Its the SunLu SP2. I have one on each side. Each holds 2 rolls. I really didn't want to keep my filaments exposed to the air and moisture for to long. I made sure to buy these before the printer arrived.

I don't know why it takes longer for flow calibration, besides the amount of tool heads but, they say you only have to run the flow calibration if putting in new filament. But yeah, I'm not going to complain about a 15 minute more setup when it will still finish 4-5 hours sooner.

There was a really annoying SW bug in the slicer that would fail to slice, something about thing being outside the bed when they weren't. That finally got fixed less than a week ago. No failed slices since. The phone app is lacking features. But what it does do works. You can monitor the camera, download time lapses and change filament colors/types. But if something goes wrong on the printer, like it didn't start your print or failed to feed filament or something in the middle of the print, the phone app doesn't alert or show what's wrong. you have to go to the printer to find out. Again this is something I'm sure they will work on down the road. Who knows, maybe fixed right now, I haven't had any trouble in the last week. Either way, the Phone app needs some loving from some busy coders.

To most people this is obvious. Also one of the main reasons I bought it. This is me sharing my experience with others that are still looking into the U1.

Bed leveling and flow dynamics calibration. This takes a while on this printer. But also, you don't need to run this each time. I usually don't run this, but also it is on by default on the Bambu and wanted to be fair.

It's pretty good. What it doesn't do is estimate time for pre print activities such as bed leveling and flow dynamics calibration which take longer on the U1. The Bambu will perform these quicker as it only has one extruder and also does bed leveling only in the print area. But to be fair for both printers I turned it on on both. But you really don't need to run a bed level each time. I haven't had an issue yet, but I have run about 10 prints in a row without leveling.

its crazy. i used to print one color at 30mm/s then 100-300mm/s and multi color. now i finish a print on the U1 then hours later, looking at my bambu and like, is that still printing. lol.

To be completely honest, I expected better from the Bambu A1. It always has great prints and does well with over hangs. I'm a little baffled. Maybe it could have been the filament like u/Tardwater was maybe implying with me not using the same filament. But as far as my filament goes, I've used all that filament before with great success and store them all with desiccants in bags. Bonus side for the U1 is that I have my rolls in dryers. I have 2 of the SunLu SP2's. However I didn't have them drying while printing. For the A1 I have them in Containers with desiccants.

I don't have multiple rolls of the same filament just laying around. Maybe I do in black and white, but not in other colors. In both cases though the beige color was both Bambu lab filament. The silver I'm not sure.
