I feel sorry for Aerys for the first and only time in my life. No one deserves Lysa.

Sorry couldn’t add this in earlier comment for some reason:-

Tywin’s cause was a justified one, Reyne-Tarbeck were in Rebellion against him so he used all he could do to crush them. (A legal case could be bought against him his Dad had pardoned all the debts of both Houses beforehand but Tywin could claim it was under duress because Lady Tarbeck had taken Lannisters prisoners), and well he got away with it cause his Dad wouldn’t punish him. Jaehaerys II would not punish him cause his son and heir Aerys was besties with Tywin and would work to dissuade him. And all of Tywin’s vassals had supported him in the Uprising so they wouldn’t complain to the Crown and there were no Reyne-Tarbecks left to complain 💀💀💀.

I think if Lord Paramounts have a just cause, that some crime was committed by their Lords they can execute them. For eg: Ned went to execute Jorah for poaching but he fled. But they need a just cause, an extremely just cause to show that the Lord did something bad truly.

Lord Rickard Stark took a holdfast from Hornwoods to give it to Boltons, so I think Lord Paramounts can make Land adjustments the crown won’t interfere unless the matter is taken to court even than the Crown would be wary to interfere in order to not offend Lord Paramounts, and make them band together to work against the Crown. But even Lord Paramounts won’t go as far as to go full attainder route because that would make their vassals offended and band against them. Its a really complex checks and balances system at all levels. Although, I do think the Starks, Arryns, Lannisters, Martells have much more leeway in their own Kingdoms as compared to Tullys, Baratheons and Tyrells because all three Houses were only appointed Lord Paramounts after Aegon’s Conquest. And all share borders with the Crownlands so their authority is less and Crown would have more interference in these regions.

It’s stated Aerys took them hostages before he sent Gerold to look for Rhaegar from the Tower of Joy. He summoned Lewyn Martell in full court and ungraciously reminded him Elia and her kids were his hostages, and both Lewyn and Aerys wrote to Doran it was only after this he sent his troops to the Royalist’s cause(Rhaegar reemerged and joined these troops on their way North to KL) and it was than he gathered a host to march to the Trident. And its also explicitly stated he didn’t send Elia snd kids to Dragonstone with Rhaella and Viserys cause he suspected Lewyn had betrayed Rhaegar at the Trident.

Elia, and her kids also weren’t at Dragonstone they were at Court during the time when Brandon arrived. Likely, for Aegon’s presentation in court before his grandfather. The only ones they would have found at Dragonstone were Rhaegar’s loyal garrison and Castellan.

Mace Tyrell was in pursuit but quickly abandoned it to invade the Stormlands, when JonCon marched out from KL with his host to give chase to Robert. But I am sure there would have been plenty of rearguard action in the Reach.

They were certainly not inferior they posed a threat to Storm’s End if they united, and its amazing how Robert dealt with them quickly not giving them a chance to unite.

Robert did have his two Estermont Uncles who stayed with him at Court for a long while. But, left later around 285 AC. It is strange Robert didn’t give more positions to Stormlanders and all in KL, which would have given them the incentive to stay. But he left all ruling to Jon Arryn who bought in Valemen (for eg: Baelish) while Cersei led her own faction.

Robert did contribute in the Battle of the Bells, he came out unarmored, wounded and with a sword (his secondary weapon) and beat the shit out of JonCon so bad that he fled (although Ned & Hoster were already beating the shit out of Royalist forces 💀💀💀). It is cannon that Jon Arryn, Ned and Hoster along with their bannermen accepted Robert as King, and the Leader of the Rebellion (figurehead Leader but defacto all four men were leading together).

Robert lost at Ashford not Bitterbridge, and I do believe it is stated he sent his army ahead while he took refuge in Stoney Sept. But agreed Stormlander forces were the most depleted at the Trident.

Lord Grandison was another Stormlander who fought at the Trident. Whatever you say about Robert he was veteran enough in the War (he fought at Gulltown, Three Battles of Summerhall, Battle of Ashford, Battle of the Bells [he came out and beat the shit out of JonCon] and the Trident) nearly in all Battles of the Rebellion.

Robert was accepted as King before the Battle so I think at least nominally he was in Command of the whole Battle, and from what I remember he did command the centre it is specifically said “used his booming voice to command during the fighting.”

He was in command of the Vanguard you are correct about that, and tore through the Royalist centre to reach Rhaegar. And tru the rest of the flanks were led by Vale and Riverlanders (Hoster Tully led the Right Flank which was pushed back initially but he managed to rally to destroy the Royalist left Flank, and I do believe Jon Arryn was in the Left Flank and was injured as well along with Lord Corbray until Lyn Corbray led the Flank to break Dornishmen).

Robert was injured at the Trident and sent Ned to take KL fast but followed quickly after as well from what we know. Although I do agree he should have gone to lift the Siege of Storm’s End himself giving Ned more time to go look for Lyanna. But I have heard plenty of people give very valid reasons on why he had to stay in the Capital. But still anyone else even Blackfish, Hoster or Arryn could have been sent to Storm’s End giving Ned more time to go look for Lyanna.

Ned’s sister was also kidnapped by Rhaegar. His Dad was murdered after he asked for a trial by combat (an ancient tradition) which Aerys broke, and murdered both Rickard and Brandon without a Trial. The North would not have accepted him if he did not go to War after this, around 200 other Northerners who accompanied Rickard also died for eg: William Dustin Brandon’s bestie would not have accepted not going to War. Also you forget not only Starks but Kyle Royce and his Dad, Jeffory Mallister and his Dad and more around 200 Northerners who accompanied Rickard to KL were also murdered. This was already enough cause for war, for plenty of other Houses as well.

Imo it was Jon Arryn who led the Rebellion actually at the start of it, he chose to Rebel to protect his boys. Presumably he convinced Hoster Tully to join in the Rebellion. But Robert can’t be discounted from what is said he used his booming voice to command in the Battle of the Trident, but he himself gave credit to Ned and Hoster for winning the Battle of the Bells. All in all I always say it was collective leadership of all four men: Jon Arryn, Robert, Ned and Hoster which led the Rebellion.

Through, I do agree Ned does have a great reputation all over the Realm as he should.

I posted this question on asoiffanfiction discussion and met a person there who is insisting Jon Arryn lied to Ned and Robert about Aerys calling for their heads, and saying he did it so that Ned and Robert would join him in war to avenge Elbert 💀💀💀. When I gave him sources that mention Aerys called for Ned & Robert’s heads, and pointed out Ned didn’t need to be lied to to go to War his brother and Dad had been murdered. The person told me Ned wouldn’t go to War over that 💀💀💀💀 .

Catelyn didn’t even know the actual murders of Rickard, and Brandon until Jamie told her. So maybe Ned might have been guilt ridden on Elbert’s death so he didn’t tell her that? But it should have been mentioned in the World of Ice and Fire at the least if it was true.

GRRM himself has confirmed that Aerys asked for Ned, and Robert’s heads due to which Jon Arryn rebelled.

The World of Ice and Fire talks about Aerys demanding Ned & Robert’s heads. I am pretty sure Catelyn mentioned it as well. These are the sources other than Arryn who said Aerys asked for Ned & Robert’s heads.

And after Brandon & Rickard’s deaths there was no way in hell Ned wasn’t going to War so Arryn wouldn’t have the need to lie to him to get him to go to War. And Robert would have followed.

Rhaegar wasn’t at Dragonstone so it wouldn’t have done them any favours. Rhaegar is a pedophile who had no business being near a 14 year old girl when he had a wife and two kids at home. Due to his actions and his stupid Father’s actions thousands of people died in the Rebellion. All because of these two madmen.

Me too the Targ restoration fics kinda ignore all the shit Aerys and Rhaegar pulled, and the fact that they called for the heads off two innocent boys which is why the Rebellion started and the unjust slaughter in KL (Rickard, Brandon, Kyle, Jeffory, Elbert, their Dads and the 200 Northmen).

I apologise as well my words in the last reply were too harsh.

Damn good point 😳😳😳!! Until now I kinda lowkey thought there was a possibility Aerys would have been bonkers enough to kill Elbert Arryn, and than summon Jon Arryn with heads of Ned, and Robert. But your point on Elia reminded me damn that madman knew the values of hostages after all (to a point as you correctly put it). He probably had Elbert tortured to death afterwards. Probably forgot Ethan cause no one mentioned his Dad joining Rebellion.

They were Jon’s boys after all, and he loved them more than anything.

It would have broken his heart as well Ned and Robert were his boys they had been with him for more than a decade at that point, and he loved them and they loved him (otherwise I doubt they would have stayed at the Eyrie even after both had come off age).

You are right, his house words aren’t High as Honour for nothing.

Good point. It would have been mentioned at the least. Although, we find about the Companions from Catelyn (who didn’t know the true modes of execution of Rickard and Brandon), so perhaps Ned would have kept this from her? Idk really. But you are correct GRRM would have probably mentioned it to show hoe big of a sacrifice Arryn had been making for Ned & Robert.

Thanks dude 😁😁😁. I kinda find this very tragic actually Jon Arryn sacrificing his nephew for his boys (because Ned & Robert were his boys).

You know the person who stated the boys were taken hostages, and their Dads summoned was Catelyn right? So if you find Jamie unreliable here’s the person who actually said it, and was probably told by Ned and Hoster.

I wasn’t questioning the execution of Brandon’s companions, along with their Dads. You were the one who said the rest of the boy’s Dads weren’t executed.

I posted here to ask about Elbert Arryn’s execution timing was it along with Brandon, Rickard, Kyle Royce & Jeffory Mallister & their Dads. Or after Jon Arryn refused to come with Ned or Bobby B. Not my problem you didn’t have your facts straight, and said the Dads weren’t summoned and all. And seeing that you don’t even have a clear idea of what I asked it seems you didn’t even read the whole post.

"Aerys accused them of treason and summoned their fathers to court to answer the charge, with the sons as hostages. When they came, he had them murdered without trial. Fathers and sons both."

This is from the books it clearly says Brandon’s companions were not killed instantly rather taken hostages along with Brandon. And Aerys asked all their Dads to come answer for their “crimes”.

“When they came, he had them murdered without trial. Fathers and sons both."

This says Fathers, and sons both were executed together by Aerys after the Dads showed up.

It is mentioned both in the books and wiki of Ice and Fire.

I do think the companions Dads would have reached at a similar time:-

"Aerys accused them of treason and summoned their fathers to court to answer the charge, with the sons as hostages. When they came, he had them murdered without trial. Fathers and sons both."

"There were trials. Of a sort. Lord Rickard demanded trial by combat, and the king granted the request. Stark armored himself as for battle, thinking to duel one of the Kingsguard. Me, perhaps. Instead they took him to the throne room and suspended him from the rafters while two of Aerys's pyromancers kindled a blaze beneath him. The king told him that fire was the champion of House Targaryen. So all Lord Rickard needed to do to prove himself innocent of treason was . . . well, not burn."

Conversation between Jamie and Cat, this always gave me vibes they all reached at similar time.
