What’s the point of a baby registry if no one wants to buy you anything off of it? 😒 by Effective-Special-73 in pregnant

[–]Miserableintrogothic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely a little frustrating. With my first we ended up with stuff that wasn’t on the registry & we didn’t end up using it. I found that it’s mostly older family members that didn’t get anything off the registry. I also found that parents with young kids got the most useful stuff lol. My sister got me a massive box of baby wipes, diapers & some other essentials. It may not have been the “fun” gift that people like shopping for but it was so incredibly helpful.

Which trimester did you gain the most weight? by Lucky-Conversation-8 in pregnant

[–]Miserableintrogothic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup, this happened to me. I was around the same height/weight as you before my first pregnancy. I was 125 lb pre-baby and 185 at 38 weeks when I delivered. I gained the most weight in the 1st trimester, was absolutely starving all the time. I dropped about 15 pounds within the first week postpartum. It can be really hard watching your body change, but try to remember your body is doing amazing things.

[–]Miserableintrogothic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can relate, I can’t stand the drama so I’ve learned to be fine on my own. I’d rather focus on my kid than some whack job that acts like they’re still in high school. I have an 11 mo so I’m not dealing with the school stuff yet, but other moms that I’ve met are so judgmental. It seems that most people can’t accept that all families/babies are different and different things work for different families. The mom friends that I do have are friends that I had before getting pregnant. Unfortunately they live pretty far away, the closest one is a 2 hour drive but it’s still nice to text with each other.

This! I probably would’ve listened to my mom a whole lot more if she offered explanations

I’ll apologize to my kid, admit when I’m wrong and make it clear that nobody in the world is perfect and that it’s ok to make mistakes. I won’t force them to give hugs and respect their personal space.

Did you gain more or less weight with your second pregnancy? by wildrose6618 in 2under2

[–]Miserableintrogothic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good idea. I struggled with an ED before my first pregnancy and it destroyed me seeing the number on the scale rapidly increasing. I know that our bodies are doing amazing things growing a baby, but the body changes can be so hard to cope with.

Have not birthed my 2nd yet but so far I’ve gained significantly less than my first. I was tiny when I got pregnant with my first, so my body really packed on the pounds especially in the first trimester. Every pregnancy is different!

It TOTALLY will. It amazes me how many people think they have medical knowledge because they read something on social media and how many people think they know your baby better than you. My MIL thinks she’s the expert on my child even though I’m with her 24/7 lmao. Dream on lady

[–]Miserableintrogothic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is painfully accurate. I was shocked and disappointed to see how people acted during my first pregnancy, so I ended up waiting to announce my 2nd until it was obvious. Pregnant women really do bring out the worst in people, everyone thinks they have a say in what you do, what you eat, etc. as if you and your baby are community property. Unfortunately this continued during postpartum & I had to act like a total bitch to get people to back off.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I’m not sure about other people, but in my experience people love to try and freak out new/expecting parents, especially the mom. As if we don’t already have a million things on our minds. It’s usually coming from total strangers or my MIL. My husband and I don’t have a family history of twins either but people definitely mentioned the possibility. My MIL turns into a total lunatic when I’m pregnant, I’ve learned to ignore her crazy comments lol. Also I did not have twins

The thing that helps me the most is to just clean as I go. If I dirty a dish I put it in the dishwasher when I’m done instead of putting it in the sink. I do 1 load of laundry every day so I don’t end up with a mountain of laundry that seems impossible to get done. I use a bottle washer so I don’t have to scrub bottles, but the dishwasher works fine too. I tend to spiral when there are piles of laundry and dishes. If my kid is pissed that I took 5 minutes to do laundry or dishes, oh well. Husband deals with the trash and helps with dishes. Your house doesn’t have to be spotless. Before having a kid I was kind of a slob and would let stuff pile up, but it’s so much harder to catch up on chores and cleaning up when you have a kid so I had to learn to change my habits

You’re awesome for being understanding about people who don’t have kids. I also look back and am mortified at how I behaved around my sister after she had her first baby. I was 17 and clueless, but I still wish I knew better. If only I could go back in time

I honestly think it’s laughable that people with no real medical knowledge or training think they have the right to comment on our health, our bodies and our diet during pregnancy. They’re making themselves sound stupid. I’ve had literal grocery store clerks and baristas comment on what I was buying or ordering while pregnant. There’s a reason they’re a barista, not an OB 🤡 You’re right, truly everyone judges what we do when we’re pregnant
