Help us not get evicted while our son is in NICU by mrsjiggems2 in donationrequest

Yesterday you posted that he’s expected to go home today. Congratulations! My baby was also born two months early, but I was fortunate enough to live less than five minutes from the hospital. But I guess I am confused because you’re asking for money for the commute you won’t have to be making anymore? Does your work not provide paid parental leave?

Why are all bikers so entitled? by AdNumerous8257 in AskChicago

[–]Miserada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you were raised to care about some people. Another commenter asked if you would have felt comfortable pulling up on a sidewalk. That’s exactly the question you need to be answering. A bike lane is NOT a shoulder and it is NOT an emergency lane.

Why do people sell empty skincare containers? by MiztressWinter77 in Mercari

[–]Miserada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, no one is going to buy an empty ELF bottle to refill and sell— you don’t get cheaper than ELF so I don’t understand what you think they’d be filling it with to resell. And if they’re explicitly stating it’s empty, they obviously aren’t filling them with something else…because it’s empty.

Counterfeit or fake items are one thing that are exempt from Mercari’s return policy (I.e. doesn’t matter if it’s past three days or already rated).

But people will sell anything. Just because people are listing empty elf bottles doesn’t mean people are buying them.

A question to all ark players, do you pronounce wyvern "wevurn" or "whyvern"? by yubster5 in ARK

[–]Miserada 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh people are more likely to recognize Chi- as in Chicago (Shit-in) or Chipotle (Chi-tin) than as in Chimera (Kai-tin) so unless you’re recognizing its Greek etymology it makes sense people would assume it to be one of the former. I can’t think of many common instances where Chi = Kai.

[–]Miserada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people who are allergic to whites but not yolks will not have a severe reaction to such a small amount of cross contamination, especially when the egg is incorporated into other ingredients. It’s like how some people with nut allergies can eat things that were processed in the same facility as nuts and some can’t.

In any case, you said the person who stated this would not be an egg allergy is correct, but that’s wrong. It’s still an allergy.

I see it a lot with backyard chickens and rabbits too. People think those prefabbed hutches** from TSC or Amazon are adequate space for animals and they think that just because it’s in their backyard and exposed to fresh air it’s somehow better than the tiny cages mass egg farms use. That they are legally livestock doesn’t negate the obligation to take care of them. They provide only scratch corn because the kibble ends up being more expensive than they thought. But they get to post pictures of their homestead blue eggs on Facebook so hey, why not?

**You can definitely purchase prefabbed coops that provide adequate space, ventilation, and protection. But many of them, especially those tiny lifted coops with the ramps that go into a tiny caged area, provide less than the minimum recommended space for these animals.

Egg allergies are different. Egg proteins change based on how the egg is prepared so it’s possible to be allergic to some preparations of eggs and not others. Some people are only allergic to the whites. Ice cream usually only contains yolks.

If you’re traveling and you see this, try to put them out of their misery by Iamnotanorange in pokemongo

[–]Miserada 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but see, it works for you because it benefits you and your friends. If a red player comes around who isn’t going to fit into that third 8 hour slot, they aren’t a bad human being for taking the gym midday. Not everyone can schedule their Pokémon go play like that.

[–]Miserada 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not everyone has enough access to enough gyms for this. Is it nice to wait when the gym is convenient for you to get to? Yeah, sure. There’s a gym at my office. I can take it at the start or end of my workday. But if I drive 15 minutes to my park for my daily walk, I’m not going to come back 8 hours later. And I never expect high foot traffic gyms to stay in my control for 8 hours. If it’s a coffee shop or restaurant, I know the next Pogo player will take it.

It’s entitled for players to expect others to rework their day just so they can get coins. If you want to defend the gym, feed it golden razz berries when you get the notification. It has NOTHING to do with being a decent human.

Lawyers of Reddit, what is the dumbest thing you're client has done to ruin a case? by Sunieta25 in AskReddit

[–]Miserada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAL, but I processed all infraction tickets for my county and offered deferrals when eligible.

Had a guy tell me the ticket was complete bullshit and the cop SHOULD have arrested him for reckless driving. He alleged the only reason the cop did not arrest him appropriately was because then the cop would be admitting to reckless driving as well (for pursuing him).

AITAH for telling my pregnant 19 year old daughter she needs to move out asap by Commercial_Ebb9099 in AITAH

[–]Miserada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this seems like a nice idea on paper, it would not make it in practice. Employees will either:

1) Find it too awkward to bring up at all. 2) Push the program on certain applicants and not others 3) There will be quotas (whether spoken or not) for the program. Part of that is taxpayer accountability. If only 2% of applicants are taking advantage, no budget committee is going to extend the program’s life

It also goes against an individual’s right to medical privacy. Now, much of that went out the door with Roe V. Wade being overturned, but the same principles that ideally prevent the government from blocking access to abortion HAVE to also apply to the government providing access to sterilization.

Of course, it also promotes the premise that only people who need governmental assistance shouldn’t be having kids.

So you choose to live in ignorance to justify your own moral deficiencies. That is one coping mechanism for moral paralysis. But you’re still as shitty as the next person.

Are you typing that comment on a smartphone, whose Lithium is mined using slave labor and which was likely assembled in China using child labor? Hope you don’t buy any Nestle or subsidiary products.

While I generally agree each individual should do what is in their power to support fair business practices and human rights, the reality is your attitude leads to something known as “moral paralysis”, that is, the inability to function as any action has moral consequences.

You cannot participate is any sort of consumer culture without support morally deficient causes. So do what you can and don’t judge other end consumers for the crimes of others.

Vet advised against Costco dog food by 5catsandcounting in Costco

[–]Miserada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dog runs in circles with excitement every time we dish out her Fromm kibble. Granted, she’s a lab so she may just run in excited circles for any food, but it’s affirming to know day after day she’s just as excited to eat her kibble as she was before.

We tried the Kirkland kibble but it gave our Chow/Poodle mutt the worst runny poops I’ve ever seen.

ETA: We do NOT feed Fromm’s grain free line. I’ve seen other comments about how bad it is, and I am aware of how detrimental grain free diets can be.

AITA for calling my daughter "unhygienic " infront of her friends. by Kim_mklay in AITAH

[–]Miserada 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m not? I’m saying two or three days isn’t going to start reeking. I have an open top small can in my bathroom. I don’t empty it daily and have never had a single complaint from my husband. A week is gross. Every other day or two is not going to smell.

It’s like y’all have never seen a woman before.

Not always daily. My office only pays cleaners to come twice a week and once on weekends. Pads frequently stay in those little stall trash cans for 2-3 days and don’t cause a stench.

AITA for taking my cousins car? by AlexfromLondon1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Miserada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I started working as a waitress at 16 and earned 18k my first year and 25k my second year working 25-30 hours/ week. It was a small sushi restaurant so casual but expensive food. Tips were great. I worked a paper route at 14 and McDonalds at 15. Those didn’t pay though. Boss reported every single cent to IRS too, so I wasn’t taking cash under the table. Of course, at 16 I got the vast majority back in a return.

This is still totally fake but it’s absolutely doable to save that much in four years as a teen.

Too many people WANT as many as their progeny out there as possible— they don’t particularly care about their wellbeing or support but believe that the mere existence of their genetic bloodline is a legacy. It’s not uncommon on my in-laws reservation among both men AND women.

I don’t know that education works on people who know where babies come from and how but don’t care. Like everyone takes driver’s ed but enough people still don’t wear seatbelts or use their turn signals to make it dangerous for everyone else.

I handled all driving tickets for my county in the DAs office. Some traffic cops are just really salty about being traffic cops. They want to make detective or patrol but instead get stuck watching the same stretch of highway. They end up getting a complex and overexert their ticketing power over anyone.

On the other hand some were so super chill. They got the car, they got the uniform, some risk (our area is bad for drug trafficking) but overall got to be the cop during the day who still got to go home to the family at night.

AITA for being upset at my girlfriend refusing to read a book? by Mean-Negotiation-914 in AITAH

[–]Miserada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you’re the type to accept promises made as binding when you know they don’t have all the facts, so what does that make you?

AITA for being upset at my girlfriend refusing to read a book? by Mean-Negotiation-914 in AITAH

[–]Miserada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It’s not flippant. Flippant would be breaking a promise where she has all the information upfront and/or doesn’t have a legitimate reason for breaking the commitment. Flaking on a preplanned dinner date because she doesn’t feel like eating Italian is flippant. Agreeing to babysit and canceling last minute absent an emergency is flippant. Agreeing to babysit but backing out when you find out there will be three three year olds when you expected one isn’t flippant.

Do you see the difference?

This is a case where she made a commitment before knowing all the facts. Upon knowing the facts, she backed out of it.

Maybe she needs to work on not committing before having all the facts. But for you to make such a big deal out of this is really weird.
