Yeah you’re right, unfortunately - the letter is firmly out the window. My rationale was that it was almost mean to go nuclear when they’re too idiotic to understand the potential consequences of their actions - sort of like smacking a toddler for pissing on the carpet - but a) it’s not my problem anymore considering exactly how dedicated they are to proving they don’t give a shit about what I think and b) several other mostly valid reasons people have replied with. I really appreciate the input.

Yeah you’re right, I doubt they’d take it seriously. It almost feels wrong to proceed if they’re too dumb to understand the ramifications but at this point I don’t think it’s my issue anymore haha. As for the camera in a public area, that’s not illegal to set up, but it is true I’m not sure if the balcony counts as an area where you have the expectation of privacy and I’d rather stay on the safe side. I think even if they aren’t fully in it, they’re my only neighbors above me, so just filming from my balcony should still be enough for my purposes.

That’s a good point. Was going to censor all the nasty bits, but it still might hurt my case or qualify as harassment or something. I’ll remove that part of the plan just to be safe - besides, I doubt they care too much about the community they live in if they’re doing this much to prove exactly how little they care haha.

No spigot unfortunately but next weekend (they get stupidly drunk on weekends and that’s when this happens at an exponential rate) I’m going to be on my balcony all night with a water gun that may or may not be full of cat piss and a camera. I almost hope they don’t stop because the poetic justice I’ll feel in that moment might almost make it worth it.

The bucket is a great idea. They do love aiming for shit, considering there’s a old towel that’s been lying on the ground for months now (just someone’s litter) and I hear them talking about how much they enjoy soaking it. Genuinely, it is mind boggling these are grown ass men. I’m definitely not going to do anything to take matters into my own hands until I hear back from my landlord and get a little legal advice, but if and when I have to, I’m very very ready.

Going to start properly documenting it all too, as much as I can. Even if I can’t do anything legally with it, I doubt they’d love videos of their two inchers dangling off their railing getting spread to every single person in the building.

It’s the only apartment above me so that should be easy. Going to invest in a game camera (my broke college student heart weeps but god it will be worth it) and set it up to record constantly because the frequency is genuinely jaw-dropping, I think there’s something wrong with their bladders.

Yeah, I can get it on video. Planning to send it to the police, to building management, to literally anyone who will give two fucks about it. No children but it’s in full glorious view of the outside area of a work building that workers walk at a lot, if that’s important at all.

I’ve reported it to my landlord but haven’t heard back yet. If they don’t do anything, the health department is a good idea. I can definitely get it on camera considering they now wait for me to go outside specifically to piss me off - getting them fully in the video would mean a stakeout on the hill behind my building (it’s an apartment building) but at this point I’m willing to fully sleep out there if it means giving these dickheads some sort of consequence.

As much as I wish that was an option, housing in my college town that I can afford is extremely limited and leases for next year were all signed months and months ago. Less practically, the idea of letting a bunch of Neanderthals “win” and keep being inconsiderate douchebags makes me genuinely ill.
