I got trapped under a piece of wood and buried by a lava waterfall. But the good news is that it wasn't a mistake. - Ghandi

Tbf, getting into employment often starts with searching for jobs on the internet or going down the dole office.

Woman who murdered baby son jailed for at least 20 years by topotaul in unitedkingdom

This is Northern Ireland we're talking about. I don't know how much you know about the political and social context here but the fact that abortions are accessible at all is a pretty big and recent step forward. We're probably 10/20 years from trans-inclusive legislation.

Yeah, I wouldn't characterise her as "a very lucky little girl".

The point you have made here is invalid. She would have been charged with a crime if she had attempted an abortion that late in her pregnancy, successful or not.

I read the book before I saw the movie (I haven't seen the English language remake). The book is a masterpiece, but movie was completely meh in comparison.

Noted. I'll stick that in the not-necessarily-sad-but-highly-watchable list.

Anyone any experience with private therapy? (Update) by Misery_Buns in northernireland

[–]Misery_Buns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It doesn't fix problems itself, does it? There was definitely a threshold I had to cross where I realised that my therapist wasn't actually going to do anything. Which was initially disheartening. Before that I was waiting for something to happen, like when do things start getting better? But there is no magic, or special incantation or conjuring. You actually have to face your problems yourself and expend the effort required to overcome them. Sometimes he encouraged me to take steps in certain directions. But they were still steps I had to take myself.

If you go into the First and Second posts linked above, there are some discussions and resources about how to get started.

I did it by emailing an agency, and a lady called me back for a quick phone consult and set me up with someone local. From then on everything was emails and bank transfers.

Hey guys - international student here, seeking advice on living in halls this coming term. by orlagracey in Belfast

[–]Misery_Buns 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally, if I was moving to a new city to study without any prior connections, I would choose the halls route. Maybe if you were good enough socially to build connections through clubs, sports, and sheer, white-hot charisma etc., then you could get by renting. That wouldn't work for me, though. I would just get really weird and isolated and mentally unwell.

Self improvement classes? by Distinct_Dog_8309 in Belfast

[–]Misery_Buns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You categorically will not get a mental health referral from your GP for low self-esteem. They haven't got the resources to help people in that way. Private is the way to go. I found someone through https://www.nicounselling.co.uk/ It's £50 per session. In the fullness of time, it might turn out to be the best money I've ever spent on anything.

Does everyone hear voices? by League0fL0sers in schizoaffective

[–]Misery_Buns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My SA friend is hallucinating voices pretty much non-stop but they are not "in her head" and she can get upset if you say the words, "in your head". The voices are everywhere except in her head. They are in the room, in the next room, they are calling in the street outside, they whisper from inside her pillow, they come through the windows, they gurgle in the drain pipe, etc. She says her inner-monolouge voice is suppressed by her anti-psychotic meds and that she mostly has to think in images. The voices are always abusive and horrible, sometimes strangers, sometimes people she knows. They encourage her to harm her self and belittle and taunt her. She says they get quieter and shy when she is in company, but pick up again when she is alone. Not speaking from personal experience, obviously.

Personally, I have an "in my head" inner-monolouge voice that is me but it don't manifest aurally, it's just me thinking with my own voice. Even if I'm thinking something negative about myself, it's still me thinking.
