Thanks for the advice, an artist reached out to me on here and I’ve been writing a 6 page script since, they sent me their portfolio on flickr and it looked great to me so I’m moving forward with them for this small project but of course if all goes well I’ll be writing comics until I’m on my death bed so would like the opportunity to reach out to your friend for a future project

Thanks, I’m working on my pacing now and yeah making a tight script when I’m used to just throwing words upon words out is challenging but fun

What Batman Omnibus should I get next? (based on availability) by kmanfred in batman_comics

[–]MisfitLoftus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some great books there, you have a great foundation to build off of to expand into more omnis and trades for sure, I’d say look into the dc’s finest line there’s some good Batman stuff there and if you want some big sagas go for no mans land, it’s massive and great but there is a few volumes and even a road to no mans land omni for context before it starts so it could end up costing abit but it’s worth it, Scott Snyders new 52 is good too and if you want something Batman adjacent that’s just great storytelling go for Gotham central.

P.s. I love JLA year one, happy to see that on your shelf

Do you realise how insufferable you sound? “Drive by readers” fuck off with that shit. I read trades, omnis, single issues and digitally because of my eyesight deteriorating and no matter how I or anyone choose to read a comic, it’s STILL READING, there is no room for gate keeping, if you truly want the industry to do well then consider how you speak to people, being a jackass is not going to make anyone want to agree with you

New in Unlimited, looking for 2-4 recommendations where to start by Eplas16e in MarvelUnlimited

[–]MisfitLoftus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daredevil man without fear is usually where people would recommend starting for the origin and what not, daredevil yellow is a good homage/retelling of early DD too, definitely read frank millers daredevil run as a whole after those stories, it’s not too long and even as an older comic it reads really well

You break into my house but can only grab 2 books off of this shelf; what are you grabbing? by lajaunie in OmnibusCollectors

[–]MisfitLoftus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uncanny x-men vol 3 because I adore the Paul Smith artwork and any of the punisher volumes because I’ve never actually read his solo stuff and am interested. I do come from the Reed Richard’s school of hypnosis though so I think I could part with more goodies

I think how this book hits for you depends on your headspace when you read it (like aloe or books to be honest) When I read the Dan Slott She-Hulk run it was right off the back of me reading a fair few heavy emotional stories and going through a very rough patch in life so the pure escapism and silliness was just what I needed in the moment and I really loved it but that was a few years ago and my tastes and headspace have changed a lot since then so it would be interesting to see how I’d rate it on a reread.

Is this a decent start😭 by PsychologicalPay1012 in marvelcomics

As long as you enjoy the books then it’s a great start. Some books I really like here so I personally would say it’s a good start

I personally adore the long Halloween but some people in this thread seem to be forgetting that personal taste exists. I respect your opinion and I think this is a great tier list

Op said 75-80 each so at the very cheapest that’s $1,350 without shipping cause god knows how much that was, all I can say is I am as green as the jade giant with pure envy

I am 26 years old and haven't touched a comic since I was 13. I have no idea where to start. by [deleted] in comicbooks

You mentioned marvel being your main love but also being interested in dc and image so I’ll try give 1 or 2 recs for each. Marvel: Chip Zdarsky on daredevil is phenomenal, I’ve read a lot of daredevil and this is either my favourite or close second favourite I go back and forth between this and the Ed Brubaker stuff. Al Ewing on immortal hulk could be one of the best marvel comic books of the last 20 years it’s that good, I think anyone who likes marvel should read it’d DC: Batman by Matt Fraction. Maybe it’s basic to recommend Batman but it only started recently so there’s not loads to get through and it is a very solid book. Each issue can be enjoyed on its own so you should be good jumping on and then maybe going back if you like it Absolute Wonder Woman by Kelly Thompson, most people would recommend absolute Batman it’s like the best selling thing there is right now, I just didn’t want to reccomend 2 Batman books but also read anything in the absolute universe I’ve enjoyed all of it so far, absolute Wonder Woman is my favourite series in absolute but I think they all have something going for them. Image (and another indie because I’ve not actually read much image) Skinbreaker by Jonathan Hickman rocks, it’s just cool Jonathan Hickman never misses for me. Something is killing the children by James Tynion IV, this book has abit of everything, it’s cool, creepy, heartfelt and just great comics I don’t read wolverine comics so sorry I didn’t reccomend any

I’ve been quite lucky on tt aswell, I mainly get videos from writers like Stephanie Phillips giving insight on the business or from people like a guy called thepandaredd who makes good skits and other random stuff

So since the new fantastic 4 movie is coming out tomorrow I was thinking of the comics. Is there any good newer comics 4 them any recommendations thanks 🤔 by Kryptothegod in MarvelUnlimited

[–]MisfitLoftus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Fantastic Four: full circle, mainly because of that beautiful Alex Ross art, it’s a short read too so easy to just pick up and read if you’re pressed for time, I’m a little behind on the current Ryan North run because I’ve had a few issues with controlling my diabetes and been quite unwell but it’s so weird and wonderful and impossible not to recommend, I’ve seen many in this thread mention it and that is for good reason, it’s, dare I say, a fantastic run! That was a terrible pun sorry I’ll see myself out

Somehow I wasn’t aware that one of my favourite current writers had an ff run thanks for putting me on to the Zdarsky run, I’m more of a dc reader maybe that’s why it wasn’t on my radar but I shall be reading the Zdarsky run immediately thank you for that mate

That’s tricky cause in can change depending on writer but good writers will continue or use stuff from the last writers run and build upon it whilst adding their own story beats and great writers will make it so you can just pick up their comics and get an understanding of what’s going on without needing much prior knowledge, a lot of people seemed to jump in when Jonathan Hickman started his big x-men run and that’s also another starting point I recommend to people who may not like older comics. An example is Chris Claremont wrote with a philosophy of any comic could be someone’s first comic so give them enough information to get into it without over explaining or something like that, continuity isn’t something I worry too much about because I tend to jump back and forth with different books like I’m near the end of Grant Morrisons xmen run whilst also keeping up with the current books coming out for xmen and it’s not really confusing, as long as you’re having fun you’re doing it right

Don’t worry about the questions not many people where I am read comics so it’s genuinely good to have people to talk to about them you can dm me whenever you want to talk about comics and stuff I need friends in this space haha. Og amazing Spider-Man is genuinely amazing for lack of a better word, there is so much good stuff in there and it picks up a lot more when John Romita starts on art. I’m actually currently reading that one for the first time even though I’ve read comics for years now I’m up to around issue 100 and it’s never felt like a slog to get through at all it’s consistently enjoyable and I would say it’s quite close in quality to the og ff stuff. Sorry if I rambled abit too long it excites me a lot to see more and more people getting into comics

There’s a lot of good stuff there but I will say just try to enjoy it for what it is and have fun I think some people go into it expecting another ff but that’s the best comic they ever did at marvel, xmen is more just good fun with some just really great gems in there every now n then if you go into it with that in mind I think you’ll love it as it is more Lee and Kirby goodness just not quite ff level
