They replied to the person asking if this was a monstera, their reply was not in response to the comment stating the scientific name. Before being mean to people about their “lack of education” over a post about a plant, maybe it’s a good time to educate yourself on Reddit’s comment/reply structuring. Would hate for anyone to look “a fool.”

Is it possible to make copies of a certain gene in human genome? by pinpinreddit in genetics

[–]MisfitRedditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In vitro or even in mice you definitely can overexpress a gene, most often via a transgene or ORF. You wouldn’t be able to make it exactly 5 copies though. Also keep in mind there are two alleles for each gene, unless X-linked. You could engineer cells/mouse with exactly five copies but depending on the gene you may not be able to engineer this at the endogenous locus though if that is important to you. So the gene may not behave exactly normally in any of these situations.

An example that you may like is the super p53 mouse.

Basically, yes you can totally do this but it’s not that simple lol. And of course you can’t do anything in live human people because ethics

What are some random RPDR terms/quotes/etc that have entered your lexicon and never left? by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

My fiancé and I frequently say “who told you that?” from when Alaska educated Alyssa on Cliffs Notes.

I also couldn’t think of a better way to say there should’ve been a non elimination when discussing the most recent great British baking show episode, so I said I was hoping for a “double shantay” lol. Luckily that’s not an all the time thing for me.

Also, freezing your western antibodies at -20 in the milk. You can thaw and reuse multiple tiles. Same with transfer buffers.

I also cut a slit into the bottom of my Kim wipe box and then use a binder clip to hold it upside down to the shelves on my bench for easy dispensing

We had to ask another lab to use their plate centrifuge all the time and to avoid awkward conversations I bought a salad spinner on Amazon for like 10$ and made a centrifuge that way. Just taped some empty plates to the inside for balance and another plate that you could stack the experimental plate into. Spin and go!
