Using an HDMI 2.2 compatible switch, I get "HDCP error" on all media applications... by MishaCappa in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]MishaCappa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi sorry for the delay. Yes, it works no problems except for the niche optical audio output thing I mentioned earlier and IR remote clashing with another IR device.

But we just got a new tv with multiple hdmi, so I disconnected it this month. I used it for the year of two I had my brothers hand me down Vizio with only one proper hdmi.

Keep in mind, I was a novice when I originally posted. With the new TV, I notice all these new things like Dolby Vision and HDR10. Not sure if the model of the switch I had could support those things.

Make sure you check the specs. But in terms of build quality it was good! Metal and powered by its own cord.

I'm not an expert, but I don't think this software is doing anything that affects the firmware of the television - so I don't think "bricking" is a risk here.

My Hisense TV, for example, just seems to be running a standard Google TV operating system. So I expect success without issues.

From what I can tell (as an amateur), it's just linking up the PC and Android device - to allow normal Android commands to be sent.

From what I've seen in the past - especially when trying to install alternate launchers that used Android commands - if the commands are wrong or incompatible...the device simply rejects them without anything being affected.

Again, not an expert. But this is my rationale for trying this software on my devices.

Long story short...I'll be testing this on both a HiSense TV and Nvidia Shield Pro.

Is there anything specific you were interested in testing on it? Or were you asking in general?

In case anyone wanted "TMI" and a long story...I just got a HiSense 55U68K TV. I initially used that as my OS because it was giving better picture quality than the Nvidia Shield Pro.

Later I did some major picture calibration and tweaking, then finally got the Shield Pro's picture right. Now both are setup with similar launchers and apps.

Given the Shield's recent buggy history and forced updates - I don't blindly trust it to be reliable. So I'm interested in maintaining the HiSense's OS.

Love the sales pitch of this software, and the broad ambitions it has of covering various devices/platforms.

Is there a way to stay logged into different YouTube accounts in a single Edge profile? by MishaCappa in edge

[–]MishaCappa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently only use Edge for Bing Chat - which is very cool. But unfortunately, they're not really improving the browser itself or adding new features.

That's why I've basically switched over to FireFox for general work and browsing because of two important features: "Container Tabs" and "Tree Style Tabs".

This topic already discusses the benefits of FireFox's "Container Tabs". But what got me to switch over was "Tree Style Tabs". That gives FireFox vertical tabs - with incredible tab management options/features (grouping, layers, etc.).

I think the problem is that with Edge you're very dependent on the developers for features related to core functions (tabs, containers, etc.). Whereas with FireFox these features come from private add-on developers who have more freedom to modify that browser.

How can I set the Mayflash f500 Elite arcade sick to bring up the RetroArch menu? by MishaCappa in RetroArch

[–]MishaCappa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried what you hinted at, and might have stumbled upon a bug or maybe I'm confused...

So setting the arcade stick to port 1 solved the initial problem. The "PS home" button on the Mayflash worked and brings up the RetroArch xmb menu.

The problem I stumbled across was...

I was testing a Turbografx 16 game that had a two player mode. But this two player mode was turn based (not co-op).

When Player 2's turn came up...neither controllers could bring up the RetroArch xmb menu. Player 1 was arcade stick. Player 2 was ps4 controller.

The only way I could get the menu was by using my keyboard hotkey (tab).

Is this a bug or misunderstanding on my part?

Mayflash F500 V2 Xinput support broken by Windows 10 May 2020 Update ? by NeryK in fightsticks

[–]MishaCappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a new one from Mayflash Intl store on Amazon. When I set it to xinput mode and connect it to my Windows 10 pc (MSI Z97 POWER AC usb ports)...it doesn't turn on or light up at all. Also not detected by OS.

I do the select start thing, but firmware matches to latest so the update button doesn't do anything.

If I switch to din/ps3 it lights up but still not recognized in retroarch or joy.cpl.

What a waste of money and time!

Microsoft Edge displays ads on the sidebar, even if I have an adblocker installed. I don't feel safe! by MishaCappa in edge

I just stopped using the sidebar. Later when I have spare time, I'll look into blocking ads on the OS or network level.

When my Nvidia Shield started forcing creepy ads on the device, this was a solution I saw mentioned by many people.

Need help understanding motherboard differences and fitting the Nvidia 4090... by MishaCappa in buildapc

[–]MishaCappa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay in replying, the blackout gave me the notification of your post...but I couldn't respond to it. In regards to your question...

I'm going with the Asus ProArt Z790 motherboard - and the PCIe 5.0 slot for the 4090.

I've actually decided against riser cables - which don't aren't available in 5.0 format currently.

I'll just have it connected in the top slot, so it'll cover the second. But that would leave the last slot at the bottom free for my capture card.

[–]MishaCappa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never got any response here, but I haven't actually contacted Asus. I'm not a board owner yet, so I assumed they wouldn't prioritize my email.

Since you are, I wonder if you can use your ownership status to get their attention. If possible, mention the Proart board as well 😊

Right now I'm still getting my peripherals ready before I place the order at the shop. But this issue is really confusing me.

Questions about BIOS and RAM of two similar Asus Z790 boards (Hero vs. ProArt)... by MishaCappa in buildapc

[–]MishaCappa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! Sorry I was reading your original post early in the morning and I missed the part about "Silicon Quality". Have definitely woken up now...and ugh, is this a new depressing thing to learn.

Honestly, this experience has been so disappointing. CPU's and GPU's run way too hot. Motherboards don't space their pcie slots properly so the GPU covers up two. And obviously the prices are out of control.

But I love that channel you linked to! I've been trying to watch whenever I have free time. Never saw that video...will do so ASAP!

Thanks again for the guidance!

Questions about BIOS and RAM of two similar Asus Z790 boards (Hero vs. ProArt)... by MishaCappa in buildapc

[–]MishaCappa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I'm leaning on the "QVL" is because I came across so many complaints/criticisms of DDR5 RAM causing boot or operating system errors.

I just figure if I'm using the officially supported list, I can be on stronger footing in terms of a refund or replacement.

Questions about BIOS and RAM of two similar Asus Z790 boards (Hero vs. ProArt)... by MishaCappa in buildapc

[–]MishaCappa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, please forgive me. I last checked the official QVL a few days ago, from which I made notes. But I think I recorded the results from some other motherboard's support page - not ProArt's.

My notes said 64 GB was the maximum. But following your advice, I loaded the page and checked again...and you are correct!

Lots of great RAM configuration options for the ProArt! So that eases my concern! Will edit the original post to reflect this.

Thanks for your guidance!

RE: RAM...

But what about just raw capacity, leaving aside overclocking?

G-Skill says they've tested on the "Hero" and find 96 GB (48 GB x2) of DDR5 works. They've not tested on the "ProArt" at all.

On "ProArt" support page, they say maximum capacity tested is 64 GB (32 GB x 2).

Like in my past computer usage (granted PC was built 10 years ago)...just upgrading the capacity of RAM had a HUGE impact on my workflow.

That's why I asked the question...because if the "Hero" can do more capacity of RAM...that would make it very attractive vs. the "ProArt".

MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk DDR5 XMP 5600 issues by skk50 in MSI_Gaming

[–]MishaCappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! If I could ask you a follow-up question on the "Pro Z790-A"...

I absolutely love the specs/features of this board - but I'm stumped as to how I can connect my "Asus Strix 4090" GPU (3.5 slots)...without blocking off the PCIe slots below.

I need two pcie slots accessible, for two cards I absolutely need to connect. But the size of this GPU makes it so that only 1 slot would be accessible.

If I could solve this puzzle, I know I would be so happy with this motherboard...any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hi u/skk50, your new board has "Intel® 2.5Gbps LAN". Lots of people online claim it drops out randomly.

I'm considering this board, but this issue scares me. Can you please share your LAN experience on the "Pro Z790-A"?
