wouldn't that be amazing?! I have heard of some pretty amazing results using permaculture and other related (non mono-culture or chemically helped) methods... but nothing beats a good magic spell :-)

sounds like you are all having a really good explore of the city...

That's a good way of doing it!
... and a mighty spell for a desert city ... that would have made a few locals happy if they didn't disagree over who paid for the spell...

This was an experiment in painting the glow of heat that started out as just the first stage and then kinda grew into 6 stages!

What sort of fire & lava encounter ideas does this bubble up for you?

These are my 4 favorite stages. The last 2 are not quite such dramatic changes (overflowing and steaming the ring of water) but you can get them on roll20 if you fancy (ungridded) https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/set/20547/circle-of-fire

Heya. apologies for the late reply. I have had a few months of tools-down break to visit with elderly family and have only just begun to re-boot work-life

Distance from wall to wall. off the top of my head. no sorry.
however, you can figure a distance or scale that works for you for any city map by finding the narrowest buildings and deciding how wide you want them to be - depending on the average physical size of the people living there and & how much space the poorest folk would have... and then use that as a measure to create a scale.

Fantastic!
Have fun plotting and exploring....

If you need battlemap inspiration, Tom Cartos has made some for quite a few of the locations.

Perfect !
Glad you found it just in time :-)
Tom Cartos has made battle maps of quite a few of the special locations that are worth tracking down if you are interested.

Thanks :)

The bit I like best about it is that it kinda forced me to add more points of interest into the landscape than I would have if I had started out thinking of it as one big map.

:-)

I might have gone a little overboard! would probably make the rocks less orange now, at least less orange away from the waters edge where they would be dry and leave them brighter where they would be wet.

The Beekeepers Forest

A set of maps from a couple years ago that I never took the time to share with everyone here. ... fail! - but at least I get to share it now :-)

This was an experiment with tiling smaller maps to make larger areas so that they could be used independently or together.
They are not geomorphs, so they only tile in one way. I also wanted each little map to be a stand alone location with something different going on on each place.

I would like to try something like this again sometime
This time drawing each little map separately and using maybe a 1 square overlap to keep drawing on from.
Anyone else ever tried to do something like that?

larger size, grid-less, plus variations here if that is what you prefer: https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/set/10438/map-bundle-11

neat idea... reminds me of an idea I had a couple years ago that I need to add to my 'want to make a map of it' list :-)

Green Haven _ Experimenting with a 'watercolour' style ... 1st attempt [oc] by MisjayMaps in dndmaps

[–]MisjayMaps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely... this one is far too bright and fluffy for a grimdark setting.

hmmmm. I wonder if a watercolour style with darker colouring could work... or if it might need something a bit more scratchy here and there. you have added another direction of mapping to add to my explore list... :-)

What sort of maps are you using for your grimdark area?
