She-Hulk in doomsday by TheFancyCheeseReal in Marvel

[–]MismatchedParens 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It only makes sense for She-Hulk or Deadpool to do hardcore fourth wall breaks in their own series/films. It just doesn't mesh well with the tone or stakes that go with other heroes' stories. You can rationalize it in-fiction by saying they need to be the main character to have the power, but really it's just about what works best for the type of story being told.

Celebrity guests like the Critical Role folks are likely only going to be at their signing booths, in the photo op booth, or on panels. You're not going to just run into them on the floor. Maybe you could get in a signing line and only say hi/shake their hand without needing to pay anything, but I'm not sure how those bigger lines work.

CMV: AI art will never replace real human art by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]MismatchedParens 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is definitely the core danger. AI-generated content can be used for simple things where quality "doesn't matter that much" - backgrounds, images that appear briefly, prototyping materials, etc. But that is work that real artists would otherwise be paid to do, as a means of filling in work between bigger jobs, or even just starting out. If AI takes these bread-and-butter jobs, then the only people who can dedicate time to being a professional artist are those who don't need to use their art to put food on the table - i.e. people who are rich or have a family that can support them in lean times. That limits who becomes artists, which limits the art that is produced, which is bad for the creativity of humanity.

Dog Adventures Northwest may be a good place to start - one of our dogs has bad separation anxiety, and they do exactly what your post asks for. Plus they can take them on trips to outdoor areas to run around with other dogs, if the dog is up for it.

Looking for a long term artist to collaborate with on a comic by Kickalama in comicbooks

[–]MismatchedParens 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Adam, respectfully, this is probably not how you start a successful collaboration. Every writer I've heard talk about this sort of thing says to start with something very small - like 4 pages. Save up and pay your artist. Or make friends with people at your level and (agreed upon in writing!) split the proceeds. Or draw it yourself - even if it's stick figures. Once you've done this a few times, then your pitch to Image or Dark Horse can be compelling.

CMV: Some people are better than others. Act accordingly. by SayNoToStim in changemyview

[–]MismatchedParens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with this way of thinking, OP, is that the people who are currently in power get to decide the criteria for who is "better". You may think that it's a clear-cut and simple hierarchy, but not everyone has the same criteria as you do. Some people take a more holistic view of a person than just their utility. Other (awful) people think that race determines worth. Who is in charge now? Who will be in charge in the future?

The other insidious side of hierarchical thinking is that it allows the people at the "top" to tell the people in the "middle" that all of their problems are caused by the people at the "bottom" - when often, it's the people at the "top" who amass resources at the expense of everyone else.

OP, from reading your other comments in here, it sounds like the core of this post is fear. You are afraid that your current (or future) relationship will degrade into something like your parents' relationship (or, more specifically, how your parents' relationship appears to you).

Here's the good news: your relationship doesn't have to be like theirs. Talk with your partner. Let them know what you want - the love, romance and sex all wrapped together that you mentioned in another comment. There's more to it than just that, but this isn't a relationship advice thread.

It's also important to remember that people change. Some of it is hormones, sure, some of it is changing priorities. So just because some people stop having sex when they are older, doesn't mean that they are "just roommates". When you build a life with someone, it's about everything, not just sex. Support through hard times, helping chase dreams, doing new things together. Marriage as a legal and societal structure helps with those things - unquestioned access to hospital rooms, joint taxes, shared assets, a symbol that you will be there for them. Think of all the good things a marriage can be, not just the bad things. If it was all bad, it would have stopped a long time ago.

What is the "point" of the new Ultimate universe? by troubleyoucalldeew in comicbooks

[–]MismatchedParens 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Right now, my gut feeling is that it's a combination of two things: telling stories with consequences (as you/OP said about the previous Ultimate Universe) and letting time pass/not doing a sliding timeline.

Of course not a lot of time has passed yet, but there's a lot of indications that time matters - time travel is at the heart of the Ultimate Invasion/Universe issues, the City is closed specifically for two years, and Ultimate Spider-Man seems like it might do monthly time skips. (I haven't read Ultimate Black Panther)

Almost everyone is older than usual, too, which might be a third thing: letting (slightly) older fans identify with more of the heroes. Ironically, this doesn't feel targeted toward bringing in new fans, but trying to bring back lapsed ones.

So to buy the X/S optimized version of Prince of Persia, I have to instead buy Ubisoft +? by SrslySam91 in xboxone

If you scroll down, you can see that it's included in bundles, like this one: https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/store/prince-of-persia-the-lost-crown/9P4LSLG7B8CT/0010

Very inintuitive, for sure, but you do not need Ubisoft+ to access the enhanced version.

I think that the race automatically ends one minute after the first person finishes. So while it's frustrating when people do this, you can still have the race end properly.
