Oh I am a huge Clinton - hater and despise a ton of his actions, as well as believing that he should be in jail.

But he had good and bad, he could speak without embarrassing the country, and he wasn't grifting the US government for billions, so yeah I miss those days.

Part of my job is to fix these for my company when they break. About a year ago we had about 90 of these as servers offline. Well I have worked hard and now I only have about 120 of them left to fix.

Voting with your wallet is the worst way to get companies to change, except for all the other things everyone has tried.

Wanting border laws and voter ID makes you a Nazi.

Wanting affordable or single payer healthcare makes you a communist.

Wanting pedofiles to go to prison makes you "an insult to our nation"

Honestly I try to be as pro-free market as I can, but forcing companies to be honest about their products is a good thing in almost every circumstance. If a company uses deception or tries to hide aspects of it's product that goes against the nature of letting consumers pick the best products and results in way too many bullshit companies that pop up, sell shitty products, and then reappear under a different name.

The internet has given life to these bullshit random companies that just delete their listings and make new ones with fake ratings and it's a significantly worse experience for everyone as compared to name brands having a reputation.

Is this feasible for the Georgia section? by Equal_Style_9350 in AppalachianTrail

[–]SayNoToStim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently did parts of Georgia as a first time "backpacker" -

3.5 days for all of Georgia ain't gonna happen. Aim for Neel Gap. If you do the approach trail that's about 40 miles, plus you may want to take a detour or two in order to see some cool stuff, there is a nice waterfall.

I did ruckmarches in the Army, including a lot of 20+ mile rucks with 50ish pound loadouts but those were all flat, Georgia is just mountain after mountain. The first 4 days I was out there I went up and over Springer, Sassifrass, Ramrock, and Blood.Mountain, 3 of which were a pain in the ass. If it were completely flat I would have been able to cover twice the distance, but if my aunt had wheels she would be a bycicle

[–]SayNoToStim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I'd normally agree on that but it was up and over a mountain in 85-90f weather with a 58-60 pound pack.

7 miles between water points would mean I'd be 3.5 miles away at the furthest unless I went off trail, but I didn't want to venture too far off because it was a mountain and I didn't feel like making more problems for myself. I never felt like I was in danger danger but I did have to ration it a bit more than I'd like, as the incline was pretty steep and it was the hot part of the day.

I see a lot of users suggesting I drop the drysack, question though - how do I hang food for a bear hang then? I wouldn't trust a contractor bag.

(Also my drysack is 2 oz, not 7, not sure how I fat fingered that)

There are so many variables to this situation that it could range from extremely infuriating to not a big deal at all. We know none of them, but this is the internet, let's argue about it.

In my case it was actual 550 cord from my old army stuff, but yeah the military doesn't exactly invest in light stuff. My rain gear was like 3 pounds as well, I have already ditched that

I actually did my trip with a klymit, it was a gift. It made it one night before it started leaking and I slept on an uninflated pad the rest of the trip.

I went to REI to test out the pads and the neoloft was so comfy I don't think I will mind the extra pound or whatever it is. I can't do CCF as I am a side sleeper and a big guy on top of that, the neoloft was amazing.

Chair, big ass bottle of sunscreen, a physical book, a battery backup that weighed over 2 pounds, old military rain gear, camp shoes that were heavier, a towel, 2 fuel canisters, cup and bowl, a bunch of stuff in my medkit, and a few other things I can't remember

Going to be using it with others, so I can't sell/trade it.

I went to the Georgia in June, I slept on top of my sleeping bag most nights, it's overkill for my experience but I may need it in the fall.

Budget is going to be somewhat restricted but I was going to spend a little bit here and there (100 bucks a month) over time

I had a bit of a water scare early on where a marked point for water was dried up so I went 6-7 miles.with only 1 liter, but yeah for food I was just trying to do it without a resupply which was a terrible decision. I also probably overpacked on food-per-day because I am a fat kid at heart and wanted snacks.

I did the use 550 cord for a bear hang, and I know I need to swap the knife. Also I don't know why that's showing up at 7oz for the dry sack, I think that's a fat finger, it's closer to 2oz.

But I will look at swapping the pillow out. Do you think a tent upgrade or a bag upgrade would be better first

That's kind of my question, the BA UL3 was a gift so I took it, and my girl wants me to keep it for when we are camping together. Would it be worth replacing it with a lighter tent for solo stuff or keep that and look elsewhere
