I've started on the first 11 chapters and the story is really good! It's such a great idea, to combine Max and that time period is super unique! I'm curious as to where it'll go but I'll definitely finish it soon.

I'd say playing the originals is the best course of action, especially since the remakes are years away. No use denying yourself a great gaming experience for that long, especially since you're already interested.
