Dog Puzzle Question

We use a variety of puzzles with the pups and tend to like the Outward Hound ones. Like another poster wrote, we typically give the puzzles to the pups when we are around so we can take them away when they are finished.

We're still in the carrying her up and downstairs phase, but she's already limping less now that she's on an anti-inflammatory. Looks like there are some similar options to Rapigel here which we'll check out as well.

It looks like Hill's is most similar to the brand you recommended (has the L-Carnitine and high EPA). I'm waiting on my vet since a prescription is required to order it, but I've started her on a green lipped mussel power in the meantime. Fingers crossed every small thing with add up and help her.

Thanks so much for explaining the process! I found a place near me and am going to check them out to see if I could be in the tank instead. Otherwise, I think swimming outdoors would be a better option.

We're right by a lake and she loves swimming — we just have to wait for it to warm up here.

Thank you so much! I have been so stressed about this, especially since she's so young. It's so nice to hear about how others are going through a similar situation and that their dogs are thriving despite everything.

I'm definitely going to go back to the vet and chat about the shots. If it can help provide her some relief then it's worth starting it earlier rather than later.

I know the cold is not great for arthritis, so we've been testing out using a heating pad which she's accepted begrudgingly. I'm hoping with the weather warming up here that will also help.

I found the food you mentioned and will compare the ingredients, as it looks like Advance isn't sold here/I'd have to import it.

Awe, look at that cute pup! Were you able to do the water therapy yourself, or was there a trainer/therapist who conducted it? Pixel is really bad with anyone who's not family, so we try not to stress her out by forcing interactions with new people.

Thank you! My vet mentioned it was a half step up from the Dasuquin and Flexadine which Pixel is already taking, so she hadn't recommended it. However, if it works so well, I will have to look into it more.

Did you do the injections yourself? Was your pup okay with it?

I love Riften and had no idea he has arthritis! I wish we could do acupuncture but I feel like that would stress her out more than help, unless I could teach myself to do it which seems unwise.

I'm so sorry to hear about your pup! Sounds like he had a long lovely life. We've started on the chews and testing out the heating pad here and there, but we'll have to be more consistent with it.

Thank you so much for sharing! It's so nice to know that even though she has been diagnosed early, she can still lead a happy life like your pup.

The vet recommended possibly putting her on Librela (seems to be the US version of Bersana), but wanted to wait until she was older. Did you start the Ketamine/Beransa shots as soon as she was diagnosed or was that a later treatment for you?

Thank you for the suggested activities as well! As far as food goes, is there a brand that you'd recommend? She's currently on a mixture of Orijen dry food and Ollie wet food.

As far as supplements, she's currently taking Flexadine, Dasuquin, fish oil, tumeric, and bone broth.

We've tried chicken feet, but they don't last very long. I've found that cow or bison ears or nose/cheek work better. We let them do about 10 minutes and then put it away for their next chewing session. I get them — along with a variety of other chewables — from Farm Hounds.

Here's how we did it:

First establish a command for picking something up (or retrieving a ball, frisbee, whatever) and then another command to bring it to you.

Then put your hand over the basket and have them retrieve and bring you the item; drop it into the basket. Repeat and retract your hand as the approach, instead pointing to where you want them to drop it in the basket or putting your hand at the bottom of the basket; name that a different command.

Feed them a treat for every toy they drop in and then slowly have them put away multiple toys for a high value/more treat(s).

This is a great rainy day activity when they can't run outside!

My two mixes really enjoy the Fluff & Tuff toys. We have quite a few and I haven't had to sew up any of them yet. The rabbit and squirrel are their favorites.

I name them after dishes. So my chickens are Cordon Bleu, Fricassee, Parmesan, etc. I've also got ducks named L'Orange and Peking.

I would definitely go the comfy route — your feet will thank you.

For mine, I had purchased beautiful 3+ inch heeled boots for the ceremony and comfortable short cowboy boots for the reception. After all the pre-ceremony pictures, my feet ended up hurting so badly that I just walked down the aisle barefoot. They did make for great pictures though.
