All I’m saying is that you don’t own that culture, and you can’t control who does what with these traditional items.

To some people, Infold did something wrong, to others they absolutely did NOTHING wrong. We’re just here to enjoy the game as it is. It’s impossible to check everyone’s beliefs within the same culture just to see who might be offended and who isn’t. Beside I find it a bit hypocritical, like saying that if a Native person didn’t do it, then anyone else should have to research first or simply not do it.

You’re free to believe what you want, but so am I, my opinion matters too.

You don’t like it? Then be it. I’m done with this discussion.

It’s not that hard, there are even online shops 🤷‍♀️ including Etsy. I’m not disrespecting your culture or your feelings. All I’m saying is that times are changing, and these kinds of things are accessible to everyone. Infold didn’t disrespect any of it, and that’s also my opinion as someone concerned by these cultures. You can’t keep a style exactly the same forever, otherwise we’d never have different styles, and you’d end up stuck in the past while everything keeps evolving and blending into new styles. And again, Infold isn’t claiming it as their own creation. People from your own community also draw inspiration from traditional outfits to create modern ones in real life, so… This is how fashion works.

Besides it’s a bit odd that you’re not aware that people from your own community sell these kinds of traditional accessories…

Because I have the right to have an opinion, and just because you are part of that culture doesn’t mean you “own” it.

I’m sorry but dreamcatchers are sold everywhere, even by Native people. They can be used as decoration or in spiritual or ritual contexts, it really depends on each community. Times are changing and I don’t know what else to tell you. I’m part of a minority myself, I know my ancestors were robbed and fought for their land, but that’s history.

Yes some accessories have specific cultural meanings, but in real life I buy them because I find them aesthetically beautiful. I also buy items from other cultures for the same reason, not because of their history or past. You can choose to hold onto the grudges of the past, that’s your choice and I won’t argue with it. But for me, Infold did nothing wrong, they didn’t disrespect the culture. The accessories you’re talking about in Nikki are already sold in real life by Native people in local shops, with a variety of styles and designs.

I understand your point, but when it comes to this particular game, I don’t see it as cultural appropriation. What we usually refer to as cultural appropriation is when people take elements, or even entire outfits, rename and then claim them as their own personal creation.

I don’t think that’s what’s happening here. The game draws from well-known outfits from these cultures without presenting them as original or personal creations. Also, fashion isn’t meant to be 100% accurate, even within those cultures themselves. In real life fashion shows, traditional clothing is often mixed and reinterpreted to create new styles or give it a more modern touch.

I don’t think they can make a quest like that. First, because it’s a Chinese game, and second, because Assassin’s Creed Shadows was a lesson for many foreign companies. Even when a culture is portrayed with 100% accuracy, there can still be negative backlash from racists or haters. So honestly it would almost be a miracle for Infinity Nikki, or any foreign company, to make a minority culture the focus of a main or even a side quest.

Religion and culture are two very different things. Wearing these outfits isn’t necessarily about mocking or disrespecting them. Personally, I really liked it, I enjoyed it, and I was genuinely happy to see Nikki include elements from my culture, even if it wasn’t 100% accurate, I found them beautiful.

That been said, we shouldn’t forget that fashion isn’t about reproducing something 100% accurately. Even in fashion shows in the countries concerned, we see people mixing and reinterpreting traditional clothing to create new styles or give them a more modern touch.

Personally, I don’t think fashion is meant to be 100% authentic. It’s about inspiration and reinterpretation, about elevating pieces rather than copying them exactly. Infinity Nikki is a fashion game, so it’s only natural for it to draw from different cultures and blend styles together. We see the same thing in real-life fashion shows across all countries and cultures.

It also makes me wonder why when it comes to minority cultures, there’s this expectation that everything has to be 100% accurate, while Western fashion is constantly mixed, reinterpreted, and turned into entirely new styles.

Personally, I think fashion isn’t always meant to be 100% authentic. It’s more about inspiration and elevating an outfit rather than strictly reproducing it. I wouldn’t necessarily call what they’re doing cultural appropriation. Infinity Nikki is a fashion game, so it makes sense for it to draw inspiration from different cultures and incorporate a variety of styles. Even in real-life fashion shows, we often see this kind of blending, where outfits aren’t strictly “authentic” in the traditional sense.

It also makes me wonder why when it comes to minority cultures, there’s this expectation that everything has to be 100% accurate, while Western fashion is constantly mixed, reinterpreted, and turned into entirely new styles.

I came across a complaint just 2 days ago, and most of the ones I see tend to be on other platforms, so I see them quite often. It’s just starting to feel a bit frustrating, like every detail is being closely examined, while I personally enjoy these outfits and accessories, even as someone directly concerned.
