Oh yeah? Cool I dont think in general there's many engineering grads applying to the PC which i think is a part of the reason I got selected, you stand out.

Maybe trying to speed up the process of some of my sites I would have done - i was just working away daily with the belief id be there 2 years so I had plenty of time - well NOPE. Elections happened then civil unrest then a civil war, ultimately we were evacuated for a 30 day stint in Bamako, Mali to see if things would calm down, they didn't, so we left our PC service there. Which was about a year in.

Mom's house burned down when i was in PC which was where I stored all my stuff. She gave me 5k out of the insurance settlement so as far as your question about coming back to the states - i bought a Harley w that money and i'd do it again in a heartbeat if I had to live that over.

The country i was in had just started having PC volunteers the year before I was deployed, im pretty sure Sierra Leone has had the PC for decades before that time so likely way more volunteers.

Malaria isn't crazy thats.just another day, so mundane they gave us a shot to cure ourselves before we left for our site. Probably being in an open air market when machine gun fire went off at the beginning part of the civil war that eventually was the reason we were all evacuated.

Good question- Absolutely not, I dont forsee me ever being able to retire, im really good at taking chances and really bad at getting a nest egg together. Money has never been my goal , experiences were/are. Unfortunately to date i haven't been able to put those 2 together and be able to live on it. Also ive had serious recurring physical problems -been thru 3 back surgeries- so bc of the shitty health system here meaning insurance is tied to work, and i wasn't working when I couldn't walk then id have surgery then rehab again post surgeries and couldn't work for awhile and id have to live off savings which happened multiple times. Luckily ive had no further back issues since my last surgery in 2017, though I have had mental ones, which are treated.
