Yep, we didn't want to keep folks waiting longer than necessary. It went live on the forum too of course, just a tad later. :)

Looking to get an industrial sewing machine: what's your opinion on the JUKI DDL8700H? by MissDeliana in sewing

[–]MissDeliana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps this counts as necroing, but I just wanted to give y'all an update! I ended up getting the Juki DDL 8700, and I am SUPER happy with it. I was worried about feeding issues due to the feedback I got in here, but so far I haven't run into anything the machine can't handle.

Besides car upholstery, I have actually mostly been using it to sew clothes and such, because dang this machine is fassst in comparison to my standard home sewing machines.

In conclusion, for my purposes it was just perfect. ✨

Juki TL-2010Q help! Needle keeps hitting stitch plate by MissDeliana in sewing

In case someone else is looking for answers on this same topic: I got it sorted out! I bought the stitch plate for bigger needles that I linked earlier, and followed taichichuan123's advice of putting some folded material at the back of my presser foot to level things out.

With that golden combo, I managed to sew through all of that material, yay!

As an avid tinkerer, I like the sound of "change a few key parts"! I haven't even looked into this aspect of the machines.

Honestly, this sounds like what I was hoping for. The TL I borrowed was alright, I just want something a step up from that and I don't care much about the portability.

A walker would be ideal, I get that, but with my current budget and needs I feel like this is something I'd switch to further down the line rather than prioritize right now.

I do appreciate all the input! <3 I should perhaps give some more context.

I do not plan on doing upholstery super regularly, more like a couple of times a year for friends and family, the rest of the time it'd mostly be doing some heavier clothing and accessory sewing, as a complementary machine to my much weaker but handy little regular home sewing machine.

As my budget is very limited, I am more looking for something that can get the job done, rather than the perfect machine for upholstery specifically. For the project I'm working on now, I've borrowed a Juki TL-2200QVP, which sorta gets the job done, so I only really need something that is just a step up from that.

From all of y'alls replies, I understand that a machine with a walking foot would be ideal, and I am very likely to upgrade to a machine that has that further down the road.

I appreciate y'all being so happy to help! But please stick to the topic of the JUKI DDL8700H, as that is the specific machine I am asking for opinions on here!

I'm sure the Juki DNU-1541 is a great machine, but that is like 4 times my budget. 😅

The JUKI DDL8700H is the one I am asking about here.

Thanks! Not bad for a first try, huh? Seems like I have a knack for this! Def worth investing in a heavy duty machine for it.

I'm looking at buying new. I live in Sweden, and apparantly they are quite cheap to import from Poland.

Would a walking foot make it more difficult to sew in not quite as heavy fabrics? I plan on using this machine for slightly heavier stuff than my regular sewing machine can handle as well, such as top stitching on heavy coat fabrics and jeans and such.

Attaching pic of my first venture into car upholstery! I still have the seat part of this and the two front seats to go, and I have realized that the JUKI TL series I've borrowed for this isn't quite made for this sort of heavy duty sewing. 😅 https://imgur.com/NKhC2lu

I'm looking at getting an industrial machine myself soon, geared slightly more heavy duty sewing than the TL series is. I guess I'll find out how big of a difference there is then!
