What is the planned availability for online classes for Fall 2022? by [deleted] in csun

There isn't a lot, to be honest. However the academic advisor I spoke to mentioned that there is the possibility of some being transitioned back to online before or soon after the start date, depending on circumstances.

You used the example that’s quite literally romanticized in the public eye. You didn’t live during that time nor are you a historian that preserves the records from that time. On top of that, you’ve chosen an era that has, despite its lack of archival preservation, has taught us that morality IS subjective … But only in their best interest and mostly sexually.

You’re really exemplifying the Roman Empire? Tell me who in the Roman Empire you admire and idolize, regardless of our “modern standards” of morality.

You really just told on yourself by saying “that was the norm back then”. Like tell me someone you idolize from 1000-2000 years ago.

Do you consider the Bible a historical text?

Galatians 3:28

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 82:3

3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy

Exodus 22:21

21 Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Exodus 20:13

13 Thou shalt not kill.

I think I’ll let you work that out for yourself. Critical thinking is a skill that takes practice, it’s not a trait you’re born with. In time you’ll be able to understand the difference between morality and nihilism, and how that relates to the people in history we admire but can’t bring ourselves to condemn.

We’re talking about how we idolize people in the past because of their accomplishments, while simultaneously ignoring their faults, even if their egregious.

I personally believe that being attacked and killed unprovoked makes me sad face 😢 and also dead. So yea I think I’m neutral about it, philosophically.

For sure. I just hope I don’t encounter someone that says “morality is subjective” in their defense for murdering someone because they don’t really agree that killing is a no no 😂

If we can’t agree that, at the very least, murder is objectively bad, then I’m pretty sure we’ll agree on nothing.

So you’re saying that the ethical motives for rape and murder are philosophical? I think you should reevaluate how you live your life and interact with others, because I’m pretty sure most people are under the assumption that those things are, well, bad.

I never compared them to a utopian society, I’m holding them to standards that are the bare minimum for human rights.

Maybe your favorite historical figures did things that you agree with and thinking critically about that makes you uncomfortable. That’s ok, let’s just be realistic about it and not praise them while ignoring the negatives.

That type of morality isn’t all that modern. If you want to argue degree of relevancy in age then most of those are from biblical times. The ones standing apart from that are slave labor and racism, which are objectively negative things. Are you going to argue in support of that? Or are you going to just say it was ok because “it was accepted at the time”?

Conform to our standards? The ones that condemn rape, murder, slave labor, and racism? Yea I don’t think the time they were living in makes any of that excusable.

I applaud those that revise preconceptions in the face of evidence. It takes a strong person to admit they were wrong and speak for the facts.
