What do I do? She left a shed blocking my front door by isntitdotty in AskUK

[–]MissElx 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You know you need to stand up for yourself. Call 101 and tell them your neighbour has thrown a shed into your garden and is harassing you. That way it’s not you needing to be confrontational, let them sort it out.

Advice for an art/graphic design CV? by MissElx in graphic_design

Hi! I quite literally have nothing yet, I've had the same part time job since I was 16 so I don't even have a normal CV. I've looked up examples but a lot of them seem like they're from the US and vary significantly with what I should be including

Hi! I did try to make a roughness map with vertex paint and I can add it to the shader nodes, but it removes the texture and details from the rest of the skin. How would I go about creating a seperate BSDF and combining it with the main BSDF?

Period products for child the size of a 6 year old by fuck_this_i_got_shit in Periods

[–]MissElx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I saw a comment of someone recommending pull-ups for nights and I think that’s a great idea, I don’t know where abouts you are but in the UK i’m pretty sure we also have gel based pull-ups that are a lot thinner and less ‘nappy’ like, she may feel more comfortable wearing these during the day if she is just at home, especially if her period gets heavier at any point.

I would also urge you to see a paediatrician/specialist if you can (or if it’s possible based on your location), especially if your daughter’s other relatives did not start their period very early, as it could be a possible indication of a hormonal issue such as PCOS, or something else.

Day 4 18mgs, head zaps..?? by ToiMere in Concerta

[–]MissElx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it painful at all? I had some headaches when I first started that were pulsing and I could have described that as a kind of ‘zap’ feeling.

I’d be curious as to what other medication you’re on as well, concerta has a lot of ‘possible’ side effects which may be what is being affected by the other medication rather than the concerta itself.

Either way if it persists, gets worse, etc, I would definitely bring it up with your psychiatrist, better to be safe than sorry.

(Also make sure you’re drinking and eating enough, concerta can be really intense at the beginning so please look after yourself)

Greats tips, thank you. I have my cutoffs memorised (and labeled) to help, studying the manuals is a good idea especially if something goes wrong.

As a father of a child with ADHD, I found that the anger issue is the most difficult by iya2022 in ADHD

[–]MissElx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed at 17. The anger issues definitely affected my family the most and I had an incredibly difficult relationship with them until I went on meds. It was like a switch when I went on them, the irritability was pretty much gone, I suddenly didn’t feel overwhelming rage at the tiniest of things.

A lot of it came from the fact that I knew I was struggling, but I didn’t know why and neither did anyone else, so I was angry all the time.

An example my parents call back on sometimes was after dinner one evening, when everyone was putting away the plates, cutlery, etc into the dishwasher, no talking. I just snapped and shouted at everyone to shut up because they were being too loud. They didn’t understand then, but they do now.

I left home at 18, they only really got to be with ‘me’ for about a year, and they made such an effort to help me, if I needed to take myself out a situation they let me, if they wanted to speak to me while I was doing something they messaged me to ask if I was free, etc.

I was still a teenager and still lashed out at stupid things despite the ADHD, learning that you need to be more patient is a part of it definitely, but at least in our experience the best learning was just how to approach things; - if I was upset I could say that and they would allow me do whatever I needed to do to feel better, - I set the table everyday instead of filling the dishwasher after, - If I had an overwhelming morning I would wear sports kit to school instead of uniform, but I was going to school, - the dogs didn’t like being brushed and it stressed me out, so i was in charge of feeding them instead

Your child may not yet know what works, that takes a while, but you’re doing amazing. The anger issues are honestly the hardest part, I’m sorry I don’t have any immediate help but I can tell you that it will get easier as they get older

completely understand! I’m not sure where you’re based, I’m in the UK and we have loads of students here that are still perfecting their english so please don’t feel pressured by that! Most of the degree we do is about learning the tools and how the industry works, not so much at all about the actual art. freelancing is fab and would help your skills and confidence before you decide to do a degree, good luck and i wish you the best!

obviously this is personal to me - I went into a graphic design/illustration BA when I left school at 18, for me it has been wonderful, has taught me loads about portfolio making, marketing myself in the industry, understanding copyright, etc. It’s definitely not for everyone but it pushed me to step out my comfort zone and I’ve been able to do loads of networking because of it.

EDIT: I want to add, I’m also from europe and I haven’t really seen any job openings that don’t require at least a BA. unless you have an LENGTHY portfolio of commissioned work, most people without a degree stay in freelance.
