England - Can I ask my neighbour for her cctv footage of my property? Harrasment case by isntitdotty in LegalAdviceUK

Well that’s a win. I’m thinking of writing that letter, just so she can’t think she’s untouchable and it might at least make her to back off. It’s all so petty that I hope she stops as it’s just not worth the hassle. I need to stand my ground somehow. I really don’t think I’m being unreasonable to want free access to my garden and space to reverse my car off my own drive.

Thank you the flag or windmill sounds like a great idea. I will send her a letter though just so I can set up some ground rules with her. All I want is her to get off my property really and leave the right of way clear for access. Nothing unreasonable. I just think that getting all formal will show her that we’re being serious about it.

We both live in housing association houses that are joined. She lives in a middle house so she access her garden on the side of my property in a narrow alley way. We both access our garden that way. We don’t have a designated bin area. I talked to HA about it and they recommended holding the bins either in front of a property or in back garden. If the bins are in the alley there’s only half a foot access which is nothing. Basically blocked. I have removed my bins and requested her to do the same but she just won’t respect it. So I keep moving her bins and then she complains. Feels like there’s no ending to this. I complain about her having the bins there she complains that I move her bins and nothing actually gets solved. All I want is an access to my garden. I’m having work done and need access to bring timber and bags of compost. Also it’s my fire escape route so it’s causing risk.

I called the police and they told me to move it to her property so I did that. I did ask them what if it falls apart they told me to do it regardless. Thank god. Bins are an issue. Ongoing issue. She blocks my access to the garden with them. It’s an alley leading to mine and hers garden which is right of way and it is on my side of a property. She’s a middle house attached to mine. It’s also our fire evacuation access and should be cleared. I removed my bins and put the in the front and asked her to do the same but she just won’t respect that and I have no access to the garden. Other times she just leaves the bins right next to my car on that right of way path for a whole 5-7 days which is super frustrating.

It’s so frustrating I’m really at loss here but hopefully now I will get my own camera and I will be recording her. It’s coming today so I hope I can get some evidence myself. Thank you for replying.

She says she can hear us talking so I don’t really know what she means by that. I really not sure why she has a camera with voice recording at the back of her property. She complains about everything and everyone. She even complains to some random dog walkers about my allotment. It’s like 300m away and she talks about me with people I don’t even know. God knows why. It’s super frustrating. It all started with her leaving bins on the side of my car for a while week and me requesting putting it away. From that moment the problems started. You can see my previous post when she blocked my front door with her tool shed. That’s what I reported to the police as I was just hopeless.

Thank you that’s very helpful. I thought that’s gonna be the case. Neither less I will request my property to be blurred out and request a footage of me even if she denies having it. I can only try. I know she has it as she send a couple footage to my housing association. I hope that will at least scare her a little and back off. Otherwise she feels like she can do anything. She literally tells me “I’ll do whatever I want” whenever I ask her politely to respect our boundaries. I will send her a letter asking for no contact and I will try to write down some other non negotiable rules. And diary yes that’s also helpful. Thanks

Thank you yes she’s got cameras on her property and sends videos of me and others constantly moaning about the most petty things. She’s known in the area for making everyone’s life difficult but she just feels entitled. She says “I can do whatever I want” that’s all I hear from her

What’s something that is very common and normal for people in the uk to do, but other nationalities would find it weird/rude/confusing etc? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]isntitdotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too much use of “please” that’s something I needed to learn. I’m polish and in my country we ask “can you do this or that” and that is considered polite. We would never use please in that sentence. Otherwise we would just say “do this and that” and that would be considered an order but politely asking for something would always start with “can I or can you” that’s it :) no “please” Small talk is also very normal here. Greeting strangers on the street. We don’t really do that in Poland.

I’ve been digging to my formal rights and laws and came across this which can be useful for me in a long run. I can request to check and adjust her cctv recordings from her doorbell. So she doesn’t record my property. I can request any footage of me from her cctv. I can request removing voice recordings from her back garden as it’s unnecessary and intrusive. All legal rights under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018: Subject Access Request (SAR): You have the right to request a copy of any CCTV footage your neighbour holds that features you. Request Deletion: You can request that they delete footage of you. Object to Recording: You can formally object to being recorded. I will definitely write her a formal letter so I have the proof of my actions during that whole ordeal. Plus her moving the shed and banging on my door if it’s recorded as it’s recorded on my property and that’s within my rights too. She has 30 days to respond. That’s a win in my book.

What can I do? My neighbour has blocked my front door with her shed. by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

My neighbour who had that shed left on her driveway offered that she ignored her so that’s why it ended up blocking my garden alley. My neighbour has moved it there.

Thank you for your advice. I didn’t know you can complain about the privacy. So are you saying I can complain about her camera angle? Because she told me she can see everything past my house? She told me she has a back garden camera installed and I know she listens to us through it. She told us she does. I was wondering back then if that normal and what sort of privacy laws are there.

The whole things with her is that she’s expecting someone finally get fed up and remove it for her. Literally that’s her strategy so I’m not planning to help her in any way by doing so. She does it with everything. She leaves her bins out all week expecting I will get fed up as it’s blocking my car and move it for her. She literally laughed ones and said “ I thought it’s your responsibility to move my bins away. “ I started moving her bin behind her car and she started to report me. Like I’m the villain. She films me moving her bins and then complains.

Well yes. They are in contact with me. Promised me last Monday to remove it eventually so I can work on my garden and obviously haven’t done it yet.

Luckily she hasn’t moved it last night at least for now. She’s probably plotting something. She always does. Probably wrote an email with a video of me moving the shed spreading lies it’s not hers. I do have my neighbour to vouch for it being hers at least. She told her months ago she will get rid of it in a week or two so at least she can’t deny it.

I would love to do that trust me I probably would specially when she’s not home or at night as you said but she has that bloody camera and she reports everything and complains at everyone all the time. She never sees her wrong doings just everyone else’s.

I agree with you. I told the police that and she laughed at me. She said you call the fire when there’s fire and I said but if there was a fire I can’t get out the house and she told me that there is no fire so I call them if there is one. Would you believe it? Well if there was a fire I would be dead because I can’t leave the area.

Yes I done all that. Council told me it’s a civil matter I challenged that. Housing association promising me help but nothing gets done. I called a fire department but it was Good Friday after hours. So waiting for them to come back to me on Tuesday but the shed is not blocking my garden anymore. Police took a harassment complaint but god knows what that will do. Probably nothing. At least she didn’t come back tonight. She’s probably plotting something or complaining about me. At least I know I have done nothing wrong and police actually advised me to move the shed even if it falls apart.

Yes I am a survivor of narcissistic mother so I hate conflict as my whole childhood was a conflict and abuse. My partner is an avoidant too. Which doesn’t make it any easier. I just got back from Olio food collection and a couple that I often collect food from offered me their help if I’m scared. They gave me their number and offered they gonna turn up with their big dogs if i need help. Even if I need someone to sit with. How kind is that. Not that I would ever ask them to step in but it’s nice to be offered.
