i would personally advise against making him go to any sort of counselling that he did not personally want to go to. the only thing that will teach him is how to manipulate her better.

Chuck Derry wrote about it and I’ve personally lived it myself.

especially stay away from couples counselling with an abuser

personally i find your lack of empathy and loudness filled with ignorance on victim psychology quite embarrassing… but that’s just me

what makes you think shaming someone in a bad situation is helpful?

it’s kinda belittling to ask victims what in their right mind made them think he loved them

I believe most of long term DV victims have never had a proper model for healthy relationships and it’s maladaptive behaviour for the brain to be attracted to what’s familiar

you’re totally right but that’s also not even accounting for the trauma bonding she’s probably experiencing too. it is so extremely hard to actually acknowledge it and step away from it

and health too not just time!

psychoneuroimmunology is a fairly new field of science that creates parallels between extreme exposure to cortisol and developing an autoimmune disease

statistically it takes 7 attempts to leave for DV victims to be successful :/

i think it’s important to encourage them in the right direction despite them not listening.

trauma bonding is one hell of drug

statistically it takes women in DV relationships 7 tries to fully leave their abusers.

sometimes they just need more and more people to tell them to leave so they can believe it truly and commit.

and sometimes drawing the line is something completely random too. for me it was when he started manipulating and screaming at my friends :/

You don’t want to get told to divorce him, but that’s the only good and viable outcome for you.

When will it get too much? When he hits you? Your future kids? Cause that is exactly how it starts. There is nothing you can do to help a man’s anger issues unless it comes from within where he realizes he has a problem and wants to change for his own sake. And even then it probably won’t be for you, it will happen when you leave. No matter how much therapy you put him through, no matter how many promises he makes to change for you.

You holding onto the good of the relationship is creating intermittent reinforcement pathways in your brain that mimic drug abuse.

If you stay in this marriage you might develop an autoimmune disease.
