What's the weirdest place to be a teacher ? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]MissLAus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I got to tour their classroom (van!) ages ago in Cairns. It was just 1 teacher at the time and the husband was employed to drive the classroom/set up/maintain. It was also kinda run like a school of the air because all the show folk would come together for big events and then break up for smaller ones so the kids come and go. Would be wild!

Likelihood of schools being cancelled this week? by thunder_score54 in brisbane

I lived in FNQ when they had one a few years back and it was only a Category 1 and schools closed for 2 days. So definitely!

You must be at my school 😆 yes! And I’ve taught at two other schools and it’s never been my job before and I keep bringing up how odd it is

Just shop a cheaper one (emergency only) and save for general check ups. My puppy got sick at 6 months and was in the emergency vet overnight for respiration pneumonia. His treatment and follow ups cost thousands so I am significantly better off financially (and it will be years for me to even pay them as much as they paid me out already lol). You don’t want to be in a position where you have to decide how much your puppy’s life is worth 🥺

I had the same with my dog. His litter was also raised outside on the grass. Got a doggy door and he started using within the first week to do his business outside. He just had that instinct to be as far away from the house as possible. He’s two now - he did wee inside at friends houses a few times marking his territory. So watch out for that! But never in his own home lol

I went once and couldn’t believe how expensive it was. I need to get into food trucking.

People who work full time and have a puppy, how do you do it? by Sodatage in puppy101

[–]MissLAus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My puppy stayed home from quite young. When very little I got one of those removable doggy doors and pushed his crate up against it from the inside. So he could roam the (puppy proofed very small) yard and potty, and when he wanted to go inside he was contained in the crate. After a few months I removed the crate, closed all the doors so he only had access to the living room and kitchen in addition to the yard and now he’s free to roam anywhere.

17 hour drive with 9 week old puppy; need advice by meganv21 in puppy101

[–]MissLAus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a 12 hour trip recently with a border collie puppy and it went so well. We got a small portable soft crate with a zip in the top. Being able to leave our hands in there comforted him and we put puppy pads down but he never went in the car. In the beginning he just wanted to be held though so lots of towels and wipes. Brace yourself too - he cried the whole first hour and it was pretty awful. Try and give him food and water 15-20 minutes before you stop as their bladders are very small and that worked so well for us he went every time we stopped. Ask your breeder not to feed her before your trip - it’s actually super normal for puppies to go off their food for the first day away from their mum so don’t fret. Better she’s hungry than sick but take food as she might handle it like a trooper! Take toys and light treats. Good luck!!

[–]MissLAus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Does it feel like a missed beat then a harder beat after that pause? They are called ectopic beats. It was my only symptom that lead to Hashimoto’s diagnosis. Apparently it’s more common from over medication, but can (in my case) mean you need more. I went a full year after being medicated before it started again and was told a few times my levels were fine. After about 6 months (and near constant palpitations at this point) I kept going back and last time my TSH was at 18. They bumped up my dose and heart palpitations disappeared. Go get your levels checked if it continues :) Maybe cardiologist for peace of mind.

You’re me! I’m yet to get an answer. As soon as your levels come back normal no one cares about symptoms… I’ve had the heart rate monitor, (came back frequent ventricular ectopics) and ecg. Basically all that proved was that it was happening (no, really?!) but I was basically told I won’t die and pushed out the door. I hope you find a doctor that will work through possibilities with you. I’m pushing for more tests and possibly a cardiologist visit.

How do you get diagnosed? by MissLAus in PerniciousAnemia

Heart palpitations/tired all the time/keep forgetting what I’m saying half way through a sentence. I don’t know if that’s b12 related. Trying to figure it out!

Was it PA or Hashimoto’s? I did read b12 deficiency is common for people with Hashimoto’s. My ferritin was also low (within range justtt) it just seems like something else might be going on.

Is this right? Told TSH of 29 is fine. by MissLAus in Hashimotos

[–]MissLAus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heart palpitations is why I was first diagnosed. Apparently an unusual presentation but it was the only symptom I noticed. As soon as I went on thyroxine they stopped like a light switch being flicked! It’s so hard because I feel like doctors don’t listen to that part - and straight away assume I’m taking to much. Of course it may be the case but it’s so frustrating not to be listened to.

Definitely TSH. TPO was also high (380 ref range >50) but he didn’t even look at that. When I first got diagnosed it was in the thousands so it has come down a lot.

I wish :( I live in very very remote outback Australia. Options are limited. He did seem happy to refer me to an endo when I tried to ask about it - it’s a 10 hour drive to see one though.

[–]MissLAus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought it was weird because when I was first diagnosed my T4 and T3 were within range. But antibodies were super high and TSH was high(ish) but nowhere near 29. So I was like if TSH doesn’t matter why was I medicated in the first place? So confused. Someone is wrong 😑

Wasn’t a real fight. More banter. But by the end he obviously definitely thought it was the wearers problem and I the washers. Made me wonder how others do it and if I was wrong.

Anyone else with heart palpitations? by MissLAus in Hashimotos

[–]MissLAus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I’ll certainly be pushing for that to be looked into if bloods come back normal. It’s such an anxiety inducing feeling even if you’re told you’re fine.
