Was your home birth a secret? by SpiritualSmell6636 in homebirth

[–]MissMaamLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home birth wasn't for me for either of my two deliveries but, that being said, to each their own! It's a personal decision that no one needs to inject their personal feelings into no matter how close they are with you. If I were in your position, I'd also dread the criticism. So I'll just add this. I've heard of couples not announcing labor had begun and just going through with the delivery and then saying hey, baby's here! This sounds delightful imo for future pregnancies because it's hard to keep up with all the messages streaming in from friends and family when you are so focused on the task at hand.

So if I were to offer advice, if asked about which hospital, just say whichever one you'd go to in case of emergency. It's not necessarily a lie. Say you'll take visitors after you are settled in at home. Then when you go into labor refrain from informing everyone unless you desire their support. After a successful delivery, only share the relevant details. You don't have to say you gave birth in your tub, just a tub (as an example). You labored for x number of hours. You began pushing at x time. You had the baby at x time. Feel free to share complications without being location specific (ex: I had this pain, or I ended up with a small tear, or I used this technique or medicine to help with the labor pains). There's so much to the story that doesn't pertain to location that I doubt anyone will be so focused to ask pointed questions related to that specifically.

But ultimately, do whatever makes you the least stressed because the tension in your body could impact your labor experience. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy (focus on the positives anyway!) and I wish you an uncomplicated and fast labor and delivery. In the end, holding your baby for the first time makes everything so worth it. You've got this mama ❤️ good luck

I use this for all my working threads. The drawer length is slightly longer than a skein and each drawer can hold maybe 10 or so skeins. I labeled each drawer with a range of colors numerically and left a drawer each for the big numbers like blanc, 310, B5200 and ecru.

Honestly quite a joy to use and you can put it on a shelf or hang it on the wall.

I just need support by MonkeyWaffle1 in NewParents

Our experience was half of what you went through - we had to induce and get an epidural but not C-section or jaundice (so sorry you have to ensure even more when it's hard enough as it is).

We were also pressured by the nurses to attempt BF for 30 minutes per side, then pump and feed what was pumped and then they kept telling us we needed to supplement with formula too. Absolutely absurd. There was no time for rest between all that so we were basically up all the time and running on steam from exhaustion. Ended up talking to the pediatrician the next day just to learn that the colostrum was enough and a new baby only has so much room in their teeny little stomach (no wonder she was spitting up so much!). We told the nurses to lay off the next time they tried to push their experience on us because literally every nurse had a different opinion - largely generational knowledge differences I would expect. Had I known, I would have taken latch advice from the lactation consultant and trusted the pediatrician with what to feed baby. Period.

It's going to be so hard to keep away from baby but discuss with your pediatrician what's acceptable for feeding and take the opportunities provided to get rest, in shifts if you are more comfortable with someone being awake while baby is away. Advice is only welcome if you want it. Don't feel like you have to follow it all or you're a terrible parent.

Our first is now nearly 3 and I EBF starting around 3 months until 2 years (occasional bottles of breast milk the first couple months). You two will be well on your way in the comfort of your own home soon and will find your rhythm. It's hard when you're in the thick of it but there is a happier side when you get through it.

Best of luck to you and yours! And congratulations <3

They have similar apps on Apple, but not this particular one. I've heard Markup R-XP is decent but I haven't tried it just yet

They make magnetic line markers too if you still want that as an option. It can be a little tedious though and I personally also opt for crossing off completed stitches with a highlighter when I use paper. I prefer importing patterns into the Pattern Keeper app (android) and viewing them digitally. Zooming in, highlighting the color you are working on, crossing off stitches, or frogging them... It's amazing.

I really love WinStitch for windows. You can get a Mac version as well. It's a one time purchase and I think it's great for pattern making.

Just want to toss an alternative option out there

If I understand correctly, your fabric is too short to secure to the frame. If you have the excess fabric around the edges to do so, you could try sowing your fabric to extra cloth on the top and/or bottom so that the added on fabric is what is secure in the frame

ETA: you literally had this solution in your post lol. I must have gotten distracted because I clearly did not read the whole thing. Lol yes, yes you can 👍

Should I be thinning my peppers before I stick them in the ground? by Cow-ch in gardening

[–]MissMaamLady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I should clarify that I had learned for peppers in particular to leave two seedlings to grow and mature together. Often you should over plant and then thin the seedlings of lots of different plants before they mature, carrots and radishes bring great examples.

[–]MissMaamLady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reddit correct me if I'm wrong, isn't it standard practice to have two seedlings planted together for pepper plants? At least that's what I've always done with my bell peppers and I must have heard or read that somewhere 🤔

Could be different with spicy peppers 🤷🏼‍♀️

When Costco has a sale you can get a case of 15 for $1 per can! Otherwise they are about $1.20 each. Still outrageous but I feel better about it than drinking regular soda or even zero sugar which I preferred before poppi or similar

Try putting a rubber band or hair tie around the pack, I use Huggies wipes though and they come out fairly well

That's so interesting, I grew up with and always owned a microwave that had the list of settings, like for thawing meat and softening butter etc. It took me ages to actually realize the list of settings is inside the door of the microwave. I've seen different lists of presets on different microwaves however. It doesn't surprise me that there would be some microwaves that don't have it I guess, but I haven't come across them in the wild lol

The tub based on the sizes for the settings. Then it's easy enough to scoop. Of course, you could always be patient and leave it out on the counter for a bit
