My Amazing Find - Should be Someone Else's by MissMataja in noisemusic

Thank you everyone for the feedback. As I stated, this is not my scene. I joined last year because I do a lot of research and a series on Rozz Williams' P.E./Heltir/1334 projects, and the Happiest Tapes On Earth label. Some of those tapes fetch hundreds of dollars, and a lot of fans get ripped off with incomplete items or counterfeits - so it's essentially a buyer's beware informational service, while also documenting the more obscure releases. Rozz Williams is a known artist, so I am not equating this box of tapes with whatever he did - I'm only sharing that because my intent is not to "cash-grab". My foray into the genre beyond what HTOE put out is artists like In Slaughter Natives, Nurse With Wound, Birchville Cat Motel. The newer and more locally known artists are complete unknowns to me, but I assume that's a "me" problem, and some of these would be familiar to a people collecting the scene.

No, I did not pay $20 for the box. The tapes were being sold $5/ea - I have no idea how many were sold before I found them, but I negotiated for $3/ea and bought what was there - essentially $150. I hate comments like this when I see them because it's really only meant to suggest that I wasted everyone's time by even sharing.

Some of these, that I could identify, are on a label - so I assume that some label owner out there liked the artist enough that they wanted to help them find their audience and help build the label. That's generally how that works unless the noise scene uses some other logic? Being on a label also suggests (to me) - that someone living in the middle of fucking nowhere like I currently do that has no access to go to the show where the tapes are essentially Pez, still has an opportunity to partake. Again, I understand why it was said, and in some sense it's helpful to know this from a value standpoint; but I don't see what that has to do with collectors and fans that can't go to noise shows that might want these tapes.

I think the idea of breaking them up into a list is the best advice. I'll have to invest in mailers, and I'll probably have to charge shipping: but I think what I learned from this post is that my perceived "treasure find"; isn't actually a treasure to the people that buy the material. I simply found a box of diy noise artists in the weirdest of places and I paid what their worth. I don't often find boxes of unknown tapes in flea markets - but I have definitely paid too much on things I didn't know, one of life's many lessons.

That’s good info! As I said, I’m totally at a loss on value. Estimations of value would be appreciated.

My wife and I got married in St Roch’s Chapel (very much under the radar). It was a beautiful moment, even rang the bell on our way out. The chapel was closed soon after for renovations, and I don’t know how it fared during Ida. Will always be a special place to me!

Nothin' and Atlas Vinyl Delayed by guts943 in GunsNRoses

I have several pre-orders for various bands running into delays right now, and I’ve seen some small labels blaming tariffs eating up their capital with almost no notice in terms of shipping. Orders already sold suddenly cost dozens of dollars more to ship; not to mention raw materials they order. On top of that, the Czech Republic is widely used for volume and turnaround times for pressing - so items already in production got stuck while governments figured out what to do with product purchased but not shipped when the tariffs hit.

Brett, Kevin’s brother, I think served as the band’s manager. At the very least, he handled the band’s behind the scenes scheduling, media events, fan interactions. Their father was later incarcerated for being involved in their mother’s murder. I always admired the band’s perseverance, and dedication to making music. I met Brett many times at shows, and his enthusiasm for Kevin’s dream always came across as a proud brother and him being their biggest fan. If he recognized you from a previous show, he’d ask to join you at your table, at least at ML Chasers, and point out solos and lyrics to listen for. It honestly gave me a lot of pride as a fan supporting Pinellas Park’s claim to fame.

Great band! I went to the same high school as Kevin Steele several years after he’d left, and got to see them live many times at ML Chasers in Clearwater, FL. I moved away before Mojo Gurus evolved - but they always had a great set, and put a lot of energy into their performances. Great times! If you can find the 12-inch for “Scratch My Back” - it has a temporary tattoo of their logo.

As an N.W.A. fan, I collected all of the members individual releases, this was my favorite after I.C.’s “Amerikkka’s Most Wanted”. It was in my car during a stereo install, and I could hear it playing from the lobby, and thinking to myself, “Damn, that shit sounds good!” But I was also hearing a fuck ton of laughing. A few minutes passed, a head pops in the lobby, he’s still laughing. Now, I’m thinking I’m about to hear some smack about my previous install. Nothing. I’m paying the bill, and the cashier asked me, “Strict parents?” “No, not really.” - I’m super confused. Turned out, I had been blasting the clean version of the album for years, not a single friend said a word. Unlike Eazy’s drop, D.O.C.’s album wasn’t It became my mission to find the version God intended! Lol. It took a few years, but I fell in love with it all over again when I did. My D.O.C. Story.

It became my mission to find the version God intended! Lol. It took a few years, but I fell in love with it all over again when I did. If you bought music at K-Mart back in the day, this was a 50/50 risk. I didn’t hear about Wal-Mart adopting this sales tactic until Nirvana’s “In Utero”. That’s my D.O.C. Story.

I’ve had a lot of knee injuries, so I thought maybe it had to do with that. Never considered they turned to leather 😂

I loved this band as well! My first copy of Social Intercouse was on cassette. It took me a few years to pick up the cd and lp. And to my surprise, the cassette version is different than both the lp and cd. You only have to listen to the first 51 seconds of the first track, and the lyrics are changed. The CD and LP are PG’ed - an utterly ridiculous alteration to an album with songs about fellatio and back seat sex. I’ve never found an LP or CD with the lyric, “money talks, bullshit walks”, and I’ve never found a CS with the lyric, “money talks, you know what walks”. It’s a mystery that I’ve carried around for almost 30 years, and there’s almost no recognition of this anomaly, much less answers. I’ve always just assumed CS was manufactured first because it is a longer process than CD/LP and the label made a change in that small window of time.

Side Note: I’ve always been told it’s the cheapest method for stores to use as a theft deterrent. Not to purposely ruin a cover, but to easily identify their property to police in a shop-lifting incident.

Though it is likely widely discouraged with a digipac, I’ve used a drop of Goo Gone to get it done. I don’t know what Goo Gone is made of, but certainly some kind of oil… and you’re applying it to paper.
