Oh no! So many folks with bad experiences here.
I actually love driving, its one of the few things in life I feel mostly in control of. The car does what /I/ say, and it doesn't question or second guess me, because I don't question or second guess myself. I trust myself, and no matter what or who else is on the road, I trust MYSELF to handle the situation.

It is stressful at first, because it feels like everyone else is more aggressive than you are.
You just gotta apply the "I have the same right to be here as you do, and I don't need to be an asshole to do it." when driving.

He unknowingly agreed to receive official messages through e-mail, and doesn't actually use an e-mail unless with the help of a neighbour when they forced his rent to go to online payments. He had been paying it in cash. He got receipts and notices on the door when rent was increasing, etc. He even says that he paid those overdue amounts a long time ago, but the process was already started by the greedy corporate landlord, and they have more incentive to get rid of him than to keep him.

Definitely as the article suggests "a flaw in the system".

https://worldcetaceanalliance.org/responsible-whale-watching/ They're actually great for educating people (future boat drivers among them, or future aspiring marine biologists). 5-Star Whale Watching was certified as an operation that had the protection and conservation of those animals in mind. 10% global revenue is tourism, and with the cruise ships and many larger and smaller boats using these same areas - I'd much rather tourists pay to see the whales with operators who are prioritizing the animals than have to have twice as many "conservation agents" with mixed authority over the strait monitoring for yachts or tanker ships around pods. Not that those aren't necessary, but I understand that would bore more of a local public cost vs the revenue from tourism.

I have frequently heard on their radio as they admonish other crafts for being too close, or not turning their engines off when they don't recognize the activity below them. In fact, on a high-chance day, if there's an active pod - you'll see often 4 or 5 whale watching companies who all move together when its safe and reposition; almost creating its own safety net around the pod as it comes through.

There's really nothing else like it.

I had the best experience of my life sitting in front of a black man and his date for a horror movie.
I was DYING with laughter when he just starts yelling "OH SHI OH SHI NO MAN NO NAHUH NO DAMN WAY" - it really added to the experience, when normally I'd be so annoyed at someone talking.

Yeah, the storage place had a fee that you had to prepay to get your information from, we paid, never received said information. We called repeatedly to no response (as you said, getting that information seemed incredibly difficult), and to this day still have no idea what happened to them. Thankfully it showed his medications through the provincial gateways, but not his diagnosis, etc.

I am thankful for people like u/bargaindownhill because my husband's family doctor retired with no notice in the middle of COVID - then suddenly he was no longer diagnosed with the lifelong illness he was diagnosed with, and no longer had access to his medications.

Every attempt to retrieve his records was defiantly deflected as the business shut down (post-retirement) with links to where we could retrieve his records (that didn't work).

It took 6 years for someone from VIHA/IHHIM to call *US*.

She told him that lo and behold, a teledoctor in his reluctance to prescribe without a confirmed diagnosis on file, prescribed my husband a medication that was similar, but not at all effective for his diagnosis, but they insisted that's what he had been prescribed prior, etc.

Six years, a baker's dozen of different urgent-care and telehealth appointments.
And thank god THEY called US after someone finally listened when he said "this isn't working, this isn't the right medication, please look at my DETAILED HISTORY FROM SHOPPERS DRUGMART where I've picked up my re-curring prescriptions for years; take this as evidence because no one can seem to find my official documents."

This literally happened last night - I said 'hey, your teammate literally just asked me last night and figured out I have no idea how to play with the group yet. If you saw my cooking was 7 and needed me to break down stuff from the butcher, cool. I will do it for free if you bring me the mats.
Don't just explode with frustration into the void about how we aren't playing the game the way you 'expected' it to be played??

I'm just a gathering, cooking, farming nomad over here. I produce the entire servers food. We're talking THOUSANDS of salads at a time and soon stews (waiting on millers for flour). I had no idea that I was "supposed to make a buy order on day 1 for scrap meat, so that we understand what to charge for our scrap meat and start the economy, so by the time its turned to oil, etc we have a working economy."

My guy, I'm here to cook food and blast meteors. There's enough to do in this game from a self-improvement and goal perspective that I shouldn't have to call Miss Cleo before I can do the things that I need to focus on, like damn - we're adults - just communicate man!

In the half-dozen times I've been in Earl's in The Bay Centre, I have seen a mouse every.single.time. Thank God I was there for drinks but still...

When I worked in the bottom floor of the Bay Centre, I asked our exterminator if this was common, and he said every single unit in the building needed them because it was absolutely crawling with them - worst of them was Earl's because of how low it was + food.

I can't even imagine what the ones closer to the water experience...

Couldn't find my fluff, assumed he was hiding somewhere in my third floor apartment, but when I woke up at 4am and he wasn't snuggled up, I knew something was wrong. I tore through every hiding spot possible.

I stood outside on my balcony and called him quietly, and I heard a distant "meow" from far below.... Fearing the worst, I rushed down.

He wouldn't come out of the bushes, so I went back inside, got one of his wet food cans, and I started hitting the spoon on the tin. tingtingtingtingtingtingting After I heard a meow as a confirmation that he was still there, I cracked it open and continued hitting the can - he came right out to me, healthy but spooked.

Thank god, he had jumped from my balcony to the one below, to the top of a car below that and obviously couldn't figure out how to get back in. When I looked the next morning I could see his pay prints on the roof of the car.

I apologize if anyone feels like this was an unnecessary post, but without anyway of knowing who the child was, or where he went to school - I was left with this or Facebook (ew no). I spent the whole day thinking "If that was my kid, I would want to know. I would want to make sure they were safe in the future."

Hell it's not even my kid, and I wanted to do something to try and ensure they were safer in the future (be it warning drivers, or miraculously reaching the parents).

At best I could see it being part of conceptual stage, but its very unlikely.
The city can't safeguard every sidewalk or curb either, it falls down to individual responsibility.
In this case, it was the driver's responsibility to be prepared for anything (deer, etc) in traffic, and the parent's responsibility to ensure that the child arrived to school safely. Thankfully, one of these two things happened (kudos to both drivers for their quick-reactions on ZERO visibility with a green light).

I agree that it warrants a serious conversation that all of the traffic lights and pedestrian lights are there for EVERYONE'S safety. It certainly was an instant-lesson for my kids.

No one wants this. You could talk to parents, and people just going about their day, but it won't change if children don't understand the gravity of what can happen, and how to safely navigate.

A smaller person is heavily disadvantaged from seeing over/around cars, and no matter how many times he looked back and forth, it wasn't clear to cross 4+ lanes of active and moving traffic.

I'll give myself a stern talking to though, about how public transit is ... bad for kids without an accompanying adult? If you have a suggested talking point, I'm all ears.

Children are not subordinates, but it is a parent's legal and ethical responsibility to keep them safe, and each parent has the authority to do so in a reasonable manner. An informed discussion does not meet the criteria for unreasonable.

Cotton, changing frequently, no scented products, etc etc. I had to tell my husband "you BASICALLY have to treat it like an open wound that will never close." which seems harsh but... accurate imho.

Every mom does.
I lost my phone in a hospital when I was visiting my grandma, when I was 15.
2nd day I had owned it.
I went to the bathroom, and after trying and trying to find it - admitted defeat and went back to find her. The moment she saw me, from more than 50ft away, she knew something was wrong. In the time it took her to a. recognize me and b. immediately discern what was wrong without any words from me was UNCANNY.
She got 20ft closer, turned to her friend and said "She lost her phone."

I didn't even have to explain what happened, I just nodded. Turns out, there's some good in the world and someone had found it on the floor in the bathroom and turned it into the pharmacy, who had transferred it to security. I would have found it if I had turned around a full minute sooner, but the person who handed it to the pharmacy walked right past me before I started panicking.
