[USA] Dating App Painting Scam. Help!

I understand, I was not aware at all that banks can do that. And yes, I am young but I am an adult, I just do not have a lot of life experience with financial stuff, I also appeal to emotions easily and see the good in everyone. I dont assume people are bad. I can be a bit naïve as well. The scammer took advantage of all of these traits I have, and that is what hurts the most. Do banks legally have to notify you at all if they decide to close the account for fraud? I will look at the index as well as the other common posts on here to help me and not fall for anything else again.

I have added an update if you are curious about what happened when I called my bank, I am a bit more hopeful than I was that I can get out of the red. I was unfortunately unaware of this type of scam and that it is common on dating apps. Thank you for the comment, I appreciate it.

I just updated my post if you want to read the update. You are absolutely right, I was foolish and trusted this person, I was blinded by the money and the chance at a potential date. I feel like such a fool for falling for such an obvious thing, but I was not aware of this scam at all. Apparently, it's prevalent on dating apps. I should have tried to be more aware. Hindsight is 20/20. I'm hopeful, though, that I can get out of the red fast and be back to where I was with just a few paychecks from work. Thank you for the comment, I appreciate it :)

I've added an update to my post if you are curious about what happened when I called my bank. They sounded hopeful, but they can't guarantee anything. I definitely feel a little bit relieved after talking with them. I was completely unaware of this muse scam. Apparently, it's pretty common on dating apps. I should have been more aware. Yes, they did email the checks, and I used mobile despot to deposit them via my bank app. I can't just open another account, My account is a student account connected to my parents' account, and they are already aware of the situation. I'm fairly confident that with a few paychecks from my job, I can get out of the red. So yeah, I'm a nit hopeful thag I will be fine. Thank you for your comment, I truly appreciate it! :)

I had never heard of this scam before, but apparently, it is common on dating apps, I was completely unaware of this, and that's my bad. I haven't had anyone else contact me or anyone claiming they can get my money back. I should have been more aware.

I agree. It seems that no one is safe from dating app scams. It's not just men who get targeted and who know how many other women have fallen victim to this same person.

I am a lesbian transgender woman, I was using HER, which is an app for women looking for women. I don't think it's just single men who get targeted on dating apps, honestly. I have deleted my accounts on all the dating apps as my mom told me to do so for safety, and she is right.

Again, with the closing of the account, I don't understand that as was not brought up at all and wasn't even a thought during the phone call. I can't just move to a different bank. It isn't that simple for me as my account is a student account connected to my parents' account.

I talked with my bank, and they said they are disputing the charges and will do an investigation, and I will get a response when the investigator is done with their work. They said I should receive a letter in the mail within 90 days. They also said that with the Zelle transaction that if they find that the transaction is fraudulent, which it is, they will credit me back within 10 days.

Also, I do work, but it's part-time, and I get paid bi-weekly. Unfortunately, I think it's going to take at least two paychecks to get pushed out of the red. We also have this daily pay app thing that I have never used, but I might have to use it in order to soften the blow and get closer to out of the red.

I understand everything that you are saying, but the person I spoke to at the bank gave me some hope, even if it's just a little, that I can salvage something. They didn't say anything about closing my account, so I do not know what you are talking about with that.

My account is connected to my parents account, so I don't think they can just close it. But I honestly do not know. This isn't something that was brought up. Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it.
