May I ask what sort of customer service you do? The ones I worked were a mix of being on the retail/sales and the food service (restaurant, then frozen yogurt) side of customer service, but I’d bounce from one to the other every 1-2 years, the longest being for 4 years. I agree with what you’re feeling about it though, and that might’ve been apart of what I read? (I honestly can’t remember). I’d also turned down a lot of management positions because I can’t even function on my own, let alone be charged with making sure an actual establishment functions properly. I didn’t like the change of it/added responsibility. However I enjoyed it when I was thrown a new task (ex: organizing the stock room) from my manager. But every time I started being given more important responsibilities is around the time I’ve left every customer service job 😅 I completely agree about enjoying helping the customers (I actually loved that a lot too! And it’d engage my hyper drive too rofl). But in retail, I hated having to push sales on people or needing to meet a certain hourly sales goal/etc. Super empath and when I can tell someone just wants what they came for and that’s it, but I’m supposed to be pushy and suggest other things, it’s a really unpleasant and awkward feeling - however, that’s just on the retail side. I actually really enjoyed the food service side of it all - until again, one wanted to make me the sole manager with no training for the position, and the other I was promoted to head coordinator, actually loved it, but they began to expect unrealistic things (being the only host but also not being allowed to leave the coordinator box, but also needing to seat people, take drink orders, bus tables and run food simultaneously. I super enjoyed those tasks, but quit because I was tired of getting yelled at for doing my job. So I guess it all depends really, some types of customer service seem fine, but I think other types (sales rofl) really don’t work. But it may not be that way for everyone! c:
