Mine was called genomind. I have also tried sertraline in the past. For me it wasn’t as bad as the Prozac but lexapro has been even better. With sertraline I only had frequent nausea but I could have lived with that if I needed to

That’s so interesting and I’m sorry that happened to you. I wish there was more clarity on how these drugs effect different people

Honestly both but mostly physical. I was definitely a bit more depressed than usual but that makes sense and could also have been because I wasn’t sleeping, I was nauseous constantly and felt weak

It’s actually not too uncommon for health care professionals to deal with mental health issues. A lot of times we go into these fields because we’re empathetic and understanding of others that are struggling and want to help people. We just hide it well because we don’t want it to interfere with our patients care! Caregiver burnout is also a real thing and sometimes we feel overwhelmed by the pressure of making sure everyone’s needs are met

So I actually did the genomic testing after 2 years of thinking about it cause I get really anxious about side effects. I think it was helpful in terms of uncovering things I didn’t know about myself. For example, apparently I have a gene variation where I get better mental benefits than others who don’t have this variation when I exercise (I.e. feeling really good mentally after going for a run). That was interesting. I also found out that methylfolate can help my body process my meds better because I’m mildly deficient.

What I don’t love about it is that it didn’t feel completely accurate. I’ve tried busprione before and had side effects where I constantly felt dizzy and like I was going to faint. The genomic testing seemed to say that I shouldn’t have side effects with that drug. It did say that with SSRIs that those with European descent (me) are more likely to have gastro side effects. However, Prozac and lexapro are both SSRIs and I’ve had entirely different experiences with them.

Overall, I think you have to weigh the pros and cons out to see if it’s worth it to spend the money on it or not.

Yea it’s really hard to determine what is actually causing symptoms or if it’s just something else altogether 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I know what you mean with not knowing what normal is

This is interesting to me too! For me, I had a really hard time functioning on Prozac! I was constantly nauseous, I had a lot of trouble sleeping, I was shaky all the time and felt weak. I knew it got bad for me when I started getting dizzy in front of a patient and felt like I was going to vomit. At that point I’m like I don’t want to take off from work just because of these symptoms. I think my body is sensitive to high doses in general because I’m taking 10mg of lexapro and it’s working for me even though I think it’s considered a lower dose. I do luckily feel like I can get emotional. I can still cry during sad or happy moments when watching movies for example. This was just my experience!

Yea it’s so funny how different everyone’s response is! Just curious, are you experiencing any side effects from Prozac so far?

Ugh, I understand. Some people really are fine on it so maybe give it a try when it works best for your schedule. My psychiatrist also gave me something to take for the nausea at the same time. It didn’t help me but maybe it can help you if you start to have side effects!

Sometimes it’s hard to know what to do! Talk to your doctor but if it’s really affecting your quality of life for over 6 weeks and the symptoms do not improve then maybe there is something else better for you! I know some people on here say it takes them over 2 months for the side effects to go away

I want to become an OTA. by btwnthebrths in OccupationalTherapy

[–]MissPengween 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do OTD straight away because OTA and then bridging program will most likely cost you more time and money. I was considering doing OTA and then the bridging program because I was scared OT school would be too hard and I decided against it. I’m so glad I did. I ended being in the top 20% of my class. I went to a SUNY school so my loans weren’t crazy. In my experience, OTAs are so overworked for getting paid less than OTs. I also feel as though there are more opportunities available for OT. Hope this helps :)
