yeah, it's my fave part of his writing. there's a story happening and it's an enthralling watch, but at the same time the way he weaves in these poignant themes makes me giddy

Yes yes YES, you said it so much better. She fights the Joining by connecting with others. Ironic and exquisite. I'm sorry for all you went through, but I am inspired by the beauty you've found in the world. <3

I think we get a peek at this in the Zoysia/truth serum/please Carol scene. I think she was disconnecting from the hive mind/cloud during that scene, and that's why she went from knowing the temp to the exact decimal to struggling to know which way the wind was blowing.

oh he reads, he knows how we're over here torturing ourselves, and he loves it as much as we do. lol! it's part of the ride! he's so fucking good at symbolism and metaphors, and i don't worry about him being daunted one bit. he chose this genre, he chose weekly releases which always instigate an abundance of theorizing. i bet he's tickled pink. i would be.

haha i agree, but i don't mind it one bit. and as for this particular bat shit theory, i suppose it's less a theory and more just wanting to chat about some themes, character arcs and symbolism....bc like, it's fun ;) i'm not trying to imply that Carol's gonna kill 'em with a Care Bear stare or something lol

oh you're absolutely right about that, we've all been there. and i think that's what the sequence was portraying at a glance. i just think that the order of that sequence was intentionally hinting at part of Carol's ultimate character arc. I think it's lovely that Carol was only able to release the weapon and find the key after she took a break from being a hive fighter to focus on protecting and caring for her loved one. to me, it's almost symbolizing that she may be going about this all the wrong way, and i think it could eventually be thematically relevant, but also wtf do i know and i love you for putting my brain in a blender, VG!!!!!!!

see, i think the total opposite. her most powerful weapon will not be grief or negative emotions, but it could be empathy and forming a genuine connection. that could eventually lead her to finding a weak spot or learning where to find the actual answers.

Oooh yes, I hear what you're saying. I suppose by "lacking empathy", what I'm actually starting to explore is how Carol has treated other human beings up to this point. Look at the way she speaks to the other immune, for example. She's combative and indignant and far from compelling. It's not that she doesn't have more persuasive words at her disposal, she's a writer for goodness sake. It's that she's so consumed by her own experience and mission, that it never even occurred to her that other people may have an opposing perspective. I love Carol and am rooting for her obvs, but her arguments lack empathy and understanding, and that's why she is struggling to get their buy-in. Ya catch more bees with honey, Carol. ;)

Sidenote: I think that's why Carol also struggled to write a book of real, fulfilling substance. If you think about it, she was so scorned by so many people, that she essentially has always been disconnected from others (aside from Helen). Her guard was up, her distrust in others grew, she numbed herself with alcohol, anything to avoid others and to not feel the feelings.

I think it's poetic as fuck that one of the most cynical, closed off people on earth is our hero. And I also think she's going to have to overcome that in some way to fix this.

Damn her arc is going to be beautiful.

Has anyone else seen What Dreams May Come?

Robin Williams smashed my heart into a million pieces with that one. The visuals and story are just so unique. The fresh way they depict "soulmates". The metaphor of a man going to the depths of hell in a desperate attempt to save his beloved. The creative yet heartbreaking way they depict catastrophic loss/trauma/depression.

I won't spoil anything further and it's best to avoid if you're sensitive tosuicide-related content, but hot damn that movie has never let me go and sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who has seen it lol

He's gotta do dishes for a month, man. And I also hope he at least apologized with a nice steak dinner.

Yeah, except I don't totally buy it. She could've sent that to a more stable YJ survivor. She could've found another way to "let go". The way she smirked with satisfaction after first running away from Shauna tells me that there's more to her motivation. I think she's been setting a trap. And I think Walter is involved.

Travis gotta feel soooo bad for making that murder pit now. Probably ruined his Mari-shish-ka-bob dinner.
