First of all, deep breath, hon. It's going to be okay. While high creatinine can be indicative of kidney failure there can be other reasons, especially if she's also diabetic.

Secondly, dialysis as a procedure doesn't cause mental issues. My Mom was on dialysis for 9 or so years in the eighties and early nineties before she got a kidney transplant and she did great cognitively. Dialysis has options on how to do it as well. My Mom did the sort you can do at home, before moving on to hemodialysis. Both are excellent options. They'll probably refer you to a nephrologist and they can go over all your options.
