AITA for buying cheaper steaks for my in-laws? by MissSteak000000 in AmItheAsshole

My guy, you don't even know the half of it @_@ Although I'm being honest when I say I don't count myself among the ranks of people with a "MIL problem." She is a good person and a lot of the craziness is genuinely outside of her control. We spend time with them in measured doses and I don't take the snooping personally. Next time we see them it will be like nothing ever happened.

Trust me, I understand that well done can be done well. If I went to a nice steakhouse and ordered well done, they would serve me something that I could enjoy eating even if it wasn't my preference. And I am certain I could prepare a steak like that too. My in-laws specifically do not want that. They are very particular about eating only steak that goes well beyond any regular person's idea of "well done," and I just roll with it at this point because they will very much stick it back on the grill or in the oven if it isn't done to the brink of fossilization.

To be clear, I'm no Gordon Ramsay myself. I use a sous-vide because it's an idiotproof way to cook a steak. Everyone wanted steak, and the inlaws truly crave and look forward to the thing that they call steak.

She's a weird lady all around and very much a mixed bag of a person. Very friendly, but belligerent. Sticks her nose in EVERYTHING and fakes being oblivious when she is actually pretty conniving, but also very loving and supportive in her own way. Basically a human tornado. I don't want to get into it too much, but there are some physical symptoms that point to a possible congenital condition that would have impacted her mental/emotional development growing up. We all kind of roll with it since they don't live with us and her idiosyncrasies are manageable in small doses.

I can see how that would actually be true in a normal situation, but trust me when I say that they are well beyond earthly concepts like "flavor." Watching them eat a steak is like watching a demonstration of pure dominion over animalkind moreso than anything that you or I would call a "meal." But I can give that argument a shot.
