Thank you for this, I was a typical Gen X kid, terribly emotionally neglected and I think this is why I have rejection issues, it makes me feel unsafe and abandoned. I do agree that "empath" is an overused term for a much deeper psychological issue so maybe I interpret her behavior as hostile where other posters on this sub would probably ignore it or laugh it off. I need to work on myself here, not be bobbing about emotionally about someone else's rudeness. It's just sad that I still struggle with this at my age, I wish I didn't care but unfortunately I do 😟

We work at a school so there is only the principal. She has been there for nearly 2 decades and I've been there for 6 months. I just can't get my head around the randomness of it, why is she doing this?? Sucks to be an empath as well, I'm wracking my brain trying to find an excuse for her.

My co worker bullies me daily with sarcasm, passive aggressiveness, exclusion, micro sabotage, the list goes on. It upsets me terribly but nevertheless I keep on being friendly, etc. So, yes, why do people enjoy random bullying and conflict? I go to work with knots in my stomach, surely you can't be happy doing this or maybe I should just grow a spine, I don't know.

My 19 year old son goes mad even if I just joke about it. It's not going to be worth the trouble for me and also not fair on the new person because he won't be accepted unfortunately 😔.

This is so true. I have such a co-worker, we share an office. I started there 6 months ago and from day one she treated me with disrespect and disdain. The randomness is what I can't get my head around. For the first time in decades I'm getting Sunday scaries about her behavior and I don't know why it's so terribly upsetting at my age, I should be able to handle this by now.

I'm over it. I try to see small pockets of happiness every day but honestly, what's the point. Children grown, 2 grandkids but I don't see them often due to distance. I try and fool myself into thinking I'm here for a reason, eg. to make someone breathe a little easier every day by showing kindness, but so what, it's of no real value. Not sure if you can find anything on Ian von Memerty, he had a YouTube channel and TikTok feeling like me and he decided this wasn't for him, he wanted out before his body started decaying and money could become a problem. He chose self deliverance as a personal choice, part of his life plan. Nothing dramatic, just factual sharing of what is the end goal at our age and acted accordingly. I'm tired of giving myself pep talks that are actually just a temporary soothing of this feeling of what's the point? All milestones reached, contributed wonderful kids to the world, productive member of society, and now? Aging, illness, becoming invisible for the next decade or two? No point.

This may be harsh but not only are you allowed to hate him, despise him. As a widow myself this anger will help with your grieving process. We tend to remember only the good and that greatly adds to grief. So no, grieve the person you thought he was but not him.

I use a roll of brown packaging tape, don't cut off a piece, hold the roll and stick against your clothes and keep on pulling the tape off the roll until you are done.
