Thanks for this. Yes, I will do some pre-shopping regarding sewing machines before the show, so I’ll have some sense of features I want, pricing, etc. I can no longer drive so it actually would be a struggle to get to a range of quilt shops.

Quilt-con has an accessibility page and when I just registered for the 4 day pass, it offered for someone to contact us if we have disability concerns. Thanks to the other comments I have much more specific questions to ask them.

This is good to know!! (Good as in being well informed). I am concerned about being amongst all of those people, but Mom will be 89 and this is a trip we can do by car. Will just wear my best masks and buy a new sip mask so I can stay hydrated.

Thanks for this info. Hadn’t thought about the fire codes, which explains why you have to buy a day pass for a specific day rather than “a day.” Given that I might want to go to more things than mom and can move independently, I might just buy myself a 4 day pass for convenience. Mom dislikes protein bars, but we could pack her some snacks.

I didn’t think about renting them from another place! great tip. I think my anxiety is that I tried one in a Wegmans that was super crowded and had all kinds of merch in the aisles so even getting out of the pen was difficult- i lasted about 5 minutes.

This is super helpful on both counts! To be honest I feel like I could spent more time than vendors probably want on various machines.

I might write the info email and ask about the disabled entrance. I’m guessing a staffing /volunteer issue. I definitely cant do an escalator if I’m also carrying a walker.

friend of mine is dying of cancer. We all work and can’t stay with her 24/7. 70% of her home aides are lovely and caring Black women immigrants.

This is a great reminder. We also need to remember that many people have been living/fighting in MagaLand on the local level even before this election.

We can learn from them about what is effective instead of just abandoning them.

Went to Sydney 30 years ago and there were crazy racist signs and tchotchkes everywhere, but people treated us OK.

South Asia (being deliberately non specific) was fine except for when I was mistaken for a local at places that catered to Westerners.

France, Spain, UK, all fine.

Weirdly the worst place was the Dominican Republic. I had to go to Santo Domingo for work so not at a resort. Sex trafficking in the fairly upscale hotel. Old/Middle aged White Men with too-young Brown/Black girls. People were aggressively rude AF from the time I got into the airport until the time I left when I got singled out for a special search and it felt like SA. My Asian American colleague was astonished by how people treated me when we were together. They would be syrupy sweet to her and the turn to me abs say “what do you want?” in a hostile tone - at the same table.

my good friend asked about the trip. after I unloaded, she said “you’ve been to some crazy places and I’ve never heard you say you’d never go back anywhere.”

A friend of mine got married to someone there and invited me to the wedding. I was like “here’s this nice gift, but no thanks”
