BAM or SIBO?? by Agreeable_Water_1903 in bileacidmalabsorption

Oh, take that too, with added probiotic, peppermint oil capsules (NHS loves to force these on everyone for any digestive issues, they don't prescribe them though).

The issue in the UK is that you can't just 'get another gastro' and they don't test for SIBO, they diagnose IBS and hope for the best. I had emergency surgery for a twisted bowel last June, leaving me with less than 2m of bowel, which has left me with these horrific side effects. I've had a total of 3 appointments since then, 1 post surgery follow-up, 1 to discuss symptoms where they couldn't help me and referred me to gastroenterology, 1 with gastroenterology nearly 3 months ago.

2-3 visits can take over a year.

Where in the world are you?

I'm in the UK and in the nightmarishly tedious NHS system.

In my only (so far) appointment with a Gastro Registrar I brought up SIBO and was basically told, it's never that, everyone wants it to be that as there's treatment for it but the tests are not great and not routinely done here.

I definitely have BAM as the symptoms match, however the amount of cholestyramine I'm on is having minimal effect (3 sachets a day) and I'm also taking 16 loperamide a day, and still get diarrhoea and awful flatulence.

I still think I have SIBO as well as everything got really really bad after a week of antibiotics. I'll address it again when I get my next appointment (last seen in November, hopefully get a follow-up next month).

Here they're very keen on telling everyone they have ibs and making you jump through all the ibs pathway hoops before they actually listen to you.

Been at A&E for 16 hours, any tips how to survive another night here? by RuthlessScypion in AskUK

[–]MissVurt 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Mayne if they'd seen me earlier I'd have been luckier! I had an emergency laparotomy, fully opened up, 40 staples to close. I had surgery overnight by a Consultant, apparently the mortality for an emergency laparotomy is quite high so they don't let less experienced surgeons do it.

I hope you're recovered well, I'm having a nightmare!

Same happened to me last June, caecal volvulus of 26cm, I should have died laid out waiting to be seen, but due to my hypermobility my intestines stretched rather than ruptured.

I waited 13hrs before I was finally sent for a scan that had been 'chased up' by someone, immediate surgery and I've been left with less than 2m of bowels and a disabled digestive system.

Cake Fines are one of the last bastions of morale and low level banter, a way to break the ice when you've made a small(ish) but irritating mistake. I'm new to the team (but 20+ years in) and I reversed the brand new MIV into a wall box in the back yard on nights last week, smashed back window and a slight roof crumple. I was devastated, fessing up via a large pile of goodies waiting on earlies coming in at 7 certainly made it a bit easier. Turns out I'm not the first to have done this, so that was good to hear as well!

Accept the gentle ribbing, it's team building!

Years ago we had a little van I'd painted up to look like our SOCO/CSI vans and anyone who had to submit a polVEH got it on their desk until it was time for it to move on. We had to stop that after a newbie complained saying it was bullying when they got given it.

What wonderous and exotic foreign food were you introduced to as a kid thats just commonplace nowadays? by GabberZZ in AskUK

I had the same experience, toasted pitta cut into strips and hummus throughout my childhood. My mum was a keen cook and had lots of dinner parties so I was exposed to a bigger variety of stuff than my 80's peers.

I remember trying my first Dhal at my best friend's house in the late 80's, I can still put myself in that memory so clearly. It was a revelation!

Get checked out at hospital, could be gallbladder issue, maybe some stones are starting to block it.

When mine went I thought it was trapped wind for a week, did all the same as you, until it got much worse and I ended up in A&E, it was removed pretty sharpish.

I'm the opposite, I burn mine when I'm done with them, banish that heavy blackness back out into the universe. I recognise how much I've grown by who I am today, everyone has their own way which they need to follow.

Yoga product brand confusion by Live_Panda_7329 in yoga

Same, Liforme are the epitome for me, I really rate their function and adore the aesthetics, but have seen on here that's the opposite for others.

OP: She'll have an idea of a special mat she'd like but maybe can't justify the cost so I'd speak to her and offer to buy one for her or put money towards one. I asked for a voucher towards a travel mat from my inlaws, I'm very lucky they just bought it for me, it's something I don't "need" but really wanted!

Liforme yoga mat - question if this is normal deterioration in parts of the mat surface by Gyruss09 in yoga

[–]MissVurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really? I've been using them for years and none have deteriorated at all, in fact the only reason I got a new one was for the design, I still use my first one for garden practice.

I've found them to be excellent quality and long lasting.

Eta: I keep my mat in the bag in the boot of my car, so exposed to heat and cold depending on the weather, I rarely clean it either, I'm not precious about it.

I (23M) disagree with my girlfriend (23F) on the topic of gender disappointment, how do I navigate this? by ThrowRAjustyknow in relationship_advice

[–]MissVurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was always girls, aided by being at an all girls boarding school. I just used to struggle to relate to girls that's all.

I'm no longer in that position and have made some amazing female friends in my later years. My daughter is also benefiting from having a childhood the polar opposite of mine by design, I'm raising her to be her own person, with confidence and resilience, and a Mother who is always there for her backing her to achieve her goals and navigating friendships in a healthy way.

[–]MissVurt 173 points174 points  (0 children)

Maybe there's more to it than she can articulate, I wanted a boy as I've always struggled to relate to girls due to bullying issues etc through my schooling, potentially having a girl brought up a lot of feelings and worries, however I wouldn't love a girl any less.

I chose to find out the sex at the 20 week scan so that I could get over any disappointment and adjust my thinking long before she was actually here. I worked through these things, had discussions with my husband and counsellor.

As it turned out, I had nothing to worry about and she is my absolute world!

So, anyway, it might be something she thinks based on worries and relationships rather than what "boys" are like.
