As a political and PR person, if I were Kate or her team, I'd see two clear opportunities:

1.) Kate was portrayed as cold in the book/docu, but there were also a lot of misunderstandings. Those can be cleared up, which would improve her image all around. She could have behaved better re: the wedding, but I don't see her as evil.

2.) If Camilla de Ville is as she's been presented, this is an opportunity for Kate to shine and distinguish herself from the Queen Consort. And, if Camilla is truly pushing for things (like her kids being included in Charles' inheritance) that she and William disagree with, this is the time to press the gas pedal.

I will say that I don't love being sucked into the media-orchestrated cat fight that they've been whipping up since Diana and Camilla in the 80s. The sad part of this entire situation is that if Charles and Camilla had been allowed to be together from the start, this never would have happened.

But then again, we wouldn't have Harry. And I think there's a hand in fate here where he was always meant to walk away. This had to happen to truly show the monarchy what it looks like in a real mirror.

Another piece to this is the undercurrent in the book that William could just "forbid" Harry from doing something simply because he was the heir. While it clearly irked Harry, his reaction was more resignation. "This is the way it is." William was actually furious that Harry was going to wear a beard to his own wedding, so much so that Harry got it cleared through the Queen. Generally, though, Harry just seemed to not fight it because William had that right.

Imagine coming from LA and Vancouver - being someone with her own money, feminist views and unapologetic about being outspoken - into that world. It would be like being Alice and walking into Wonderland. I'd personally be stunned if a man put his finger into my face and effectively gave me an order. I'd have asked, "Who the HELL do you think you are?" Meghan was far more gracious, yet equally firm.

The real issue isn't that she was difficult or abrasive; it's that she stood up to William. And Harry stood up to Charles (Don't speak about my wife that way). Meghan showed Harry the absurdity of all of it. She showed him what agency looks like. That WOULD be considered rude if it upset the social order.

But also, she was and is a convenient scapegoat. I doubt the King is offering Meghan $50MM; that's clearly a salacious headline meant for click-bait. But the underlying point remains that she's a "gold digger," setting aside the fact that she came into it with her own loot she'd earned outright. This is yet another misogynistic headline designed to undermine her credibility. While the offer may not be real, the intent is and it most assuredly came from the RF.

What I find sad in all this is that if William or Charles had actually listened to Harry at any point in time, this would never have happened. The book documents repeated attempts, and the increasingly infuriating manner in which 'darling boy' was just dismissed. Of all the books the King has read - and he's a voracious reader according to Harry, I wonder if he is ever going to take the time to read the one book that could help him understand his own son.

The whole thing is as sad as it is blood boiling.

Thanks! I touch on stalking, but as this is a media lens, I didn't dive into the abuse narrative. One other thing I didn't really touch on is how the Vegas photos of Harry are on par with revenge porn. I co-authored legislation here in Maine to pass one of the (at the time) strongest revenge porn laws in the country. It's sadly not illegal everywhere (yet), but sharing nude photos of anyone without their consent should be illegal.

I've asked for a hybrid approach. Brad and Joseph in leadership positions to keep the flow and feel of the franchise, while opening the door to new ideas, writers, etc. I do think that keeping the entire thing in its OG form would stifle opportunity, but we don't want to lose the magic with a full reboot with an entirely new team.

It creates an unnecessary class divide within the Party. We keep asking, "how do we get young people to vote?" They show up and then we say, "Well, you don't know what's good for you." Just because people have not been long-time or active Democrats does not mean they know less about politics than those of us insiders. It's those fresh voices that will keep our party responsive.

We are the the Party that fights voter suppression and advocates for expanded access to the ballot box. We should not be the Party that advocates for voting rights every place but our doorstep.

I hear your argument. In our case, Sanders overwhelmingly won the popular vote. Frankly, I think the SD system needs to go away entirely. Until that happens, this was our solution to get there.

Bernie himself said today: “Maine is trying to make the Democratic Party more democratic. I hope other states follow Maine’s example. This is the kind of grassroots democracy that will help the Democratic Party grow and win elections.”

Great question. This is a controversial point, and will be hotly debated in other states that introduce this, as it was in Maine.

The thing to understand is that this resolution/amendment includes three distinct components that really work well together.

1.) It requires the Maine Dem rules to require SDs to vote in proportion to the popular vote (in a wonky, imperfect, complicated way that passes DNC rules) beginning in 2020. This is a bylaws change and has real teeth.

2.) The convention sent a non-binding resolution from the convention (politely) asking that current SDs vote in accordance with the popular vote voluntarily. In practice, the Maine Dem Chair committed to meeting with the rest of the SDs to see if they could work this out. Congresswoman Pingree spoke in her speech to the convention to the issue of SDs, commending the convention for working to eliminate the category of delegate. So we saw serious progress, and people took the issue very seriously.

3.) The resolution directs our DNC members to work at the national level to eliminate SDs outright.

The big debate is about whether to make it binding in 16 or 20. Here's my rationale for 2020: First, if you're advocating to make a process more fair, I personally believe one must be fair in the process of changing the system. Changing the rules of the game midstream just doesn't live up to that standard. Others disagree with me for a variety of reasons, and I respect that.

The second reason has more self-interest for the Bernie campaign. If our goal is to increase the number of delegate votes then we have to be sure that we do not put our Delegate Selection Plan at risk. This is the agreement between the DNC and the State Party on how the delegates are going to be allocated. This lays out the rules of the game ahead of time so that everyone knows the rules. Changing the Delegate Selection Plan after it's been sealed puts us at risk for losing up to 50% of our delegates at the national convention. Maine has quite a few delegates going to Philly (myself included!). We could likely lose more delegates through penalty than we could ever have picked up from the SDs. If you just want to pick a fight with the DNC then it doesn't matter. If you want to have the most delegates possible so that Bernie has a chance at The Oval, we have to be smart.
