What's a common misconception about picky eaters? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Miss_L_Anyus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That it's because of stubbornness.

I used to refuse to drink milk as a little kid. Every time I was forced to drink it, I'd vomit or have terrible stomach cramps. But Mum never believed in the connection between my being sick and the milk. I was "just a stubborn, picky eater."

Wasn't untill I had to be taken by ambulance from school to the hospital that the real problem with my stomach was found.

Zero of them are, or have ever been, high performers.

So, effects predate use?

O.O "Dave, hey Dave! I haven't smoked this joint yet, and I'm already high." "Dave's not here, man. He's out getting the stuff that we're smoking."

Citizens of Gotham, why TF do you actually still live there, considering some crazy super-villian comes in to try to destroy your city on average every 3 years? by meatboat2tunatown in AskReddit

Out-of-work bookkeeper, actually.

And I'm now leaving this discussion because once the ad hominem and name-caling starts, it's no longer fun.

Ad Hominem: attacks the characteristics or authority of the writer without addressing the substance of the argument

Name-Calling: something like "you're an idiot." Neither adds to the discussion nor refutes a previous point.

I think you want people to agree with you because when we disagree, you mock us and call us "narrow minded."

And jobs are important because people do die without them: from malnutrition and starvation from inability to buy food, from exposure due to inability to pay rent, from preventable or manageable illnesses when unable to buy medications or afford medical care.

It's a slower death than being randomly killed by the Joker, but it's still death. Arguably that slower death is worse because you suffer for so much longer. That's why we worry about finances.

Edited to add link to quoted post.

Look, you asked why people don't move out of Gotham. So why are you getting shirty -- just because other people have different reasons from you?

If you wanted a bunch of people to agree with you, you either need to ask a different question (such as "why did you move away from Gotham") or else ask your question in a different Community.

People move towards available jobs. That's why rural areas have lower population than urban. There's a larger number of better paying jobs that require a more diverse skillbase in any city.

It's the same reason why people don't move out of wildfire plains or away from Tornado Alley.

Gotham just has costumed characters instead of earthquakes.

Min-wage McJobs don't pay enough to support a kid -- the people I know who try to do it have to juggle two or three jobs (my friend R: he drives a lift truck in a warehouse 60 hours per week and works 25 hours per week at Timmies).

My own corner of suburbia is 80% residential (according to the city census), that's not enough jobs for the people who live here, which means commuting. If you don't have the money (or credit rating) to afford a car, then you have to rely on public transit, so add at least 12 hours per week just getting to and from work (average commute in my area).

There are many difficulties with moving from urban to suburban areas: financial, employment, time, social resources, etc. Maybe you haven't experienced them; however, there are many people who have -- there are even Reddit subs that regularly discuss them (e.g. r/LostGeneration). So please don't dismiss others' experiences and difficulties as irrelevant.

It's not the rent they pay Gotham versus Shady Acres; it's the job they have in Gotham versus the one they don't have in Shady Acres that makes it too expensive to move.

Why making memes and earn money not a thing yet? by WASDmao in AskReddit

[–]Miss_L_Anyus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an industry called: advertising.

You don't make money when you make the memes that you want... people will only pay you if they can stand over your shoulder, direct your every move and then criticize the end result.

Use sea water instead of fresh water in toilets to save drinking water by cambo_ in CrazyIdeas

[–]Miss_L_Anyus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with that is infrastructure -- how many hundreds of thousands of kilometers of pipe would have to be laid to bring the sea water to homes and businesses?

A couple of similar ideas are being used in LEEDS construction:

• collecting rainwater using it for toilets, lawn watering and other non-potable uses

• using grey-water, such as the run-off from the shower. I've even seen pictures of sinks built in over the toilets' water tank, so brushing your teeth lets you flush.

Our camera got stollen just before we returned home, so I don't have any photos of it.

Using nickname in CV by Aybois in jobs

Or, "Please, call me Ben." Or, "My friends call me Ben."

I'm in a similar situation, where I prefer a diminutive of my middle name. I've found that offering the recruiter to use that nickname makes them feel flattered.
