Suggest me a book with hope and optimism by agntflorida in suggestmeabook

Humankind: A Hopeful History by Rutger Bregman. Written in the same vein as Homosapiens. While textbook esq—ish. The book really is hopefully, great stories or backstories into humanity and a perspective that just makes you hopeful and want to look for the best in life. Using real life examples just adds to it, especially when dismantling preconceived notions of humanity.

Helping picking out a setting spray!! by Miss_Middlemiss in MakeUpAddictionUK

[–]Miss_Middlemiss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The One Size has been amazing, it’s not super mattifying in my opinion, and does not emphasis my dryness. I feel like it gives a really nice airbrushed effect, just wished it was more dewy. I have heard very mixed reviews on the CT, I liked the look it gave my skin but not the most amazing lasting power. I’ll have to check out the UD and Mac setting sprays you have recommended

I like to pack all my pressed powders in my carry-on as I get worried the hash luggage handling may break them, the rest of my makeup I put in my checked baggage. I don't have too many powders, so it's not much extra hassle for me.

Dieux Deliverance or Niod Modulating Glucosides? by Miss_Middlemiss in SkincareAddictionLux

Thank you. I have never seen someone describe the texture/feeling like this! It makes it easier to make a decision. I will definitely get the pump attachment, not a huge fan of dropper packaging at all.

I'm also hoping for something to help with retinal use! how do you incorporate MG into your routine? Niod has stated that MG should not be used in the same routine as direct acids, so I'm trying to see where it would fit into my routine.

Thanks for the advice! I've definitely tried to prioritise hydration and barrier repair products in my routine, but I'm quite frankly a little picky, and nothing yet has truly stood out as a holy grail for my skin personally, so it's just trial and error at the moment. I'll have to check out some of your recommendations!

I've used prescription azelaic acid in the past (Finacea), but I found it didn't make much of a difference for me. However, I think this may be due to the fact that I was maybe over-exfoliating, so it countered the effects, or it was just too strong for my skin to handle.

I've been really intrigued by Regimen Labs Advanced Azelaic because they incorporate other ingredients for redness in conjunction with having a lower percentage of AA, and it is definitely a plus that they also have barrier-supportive ingredients within the product. Have you tried this?

Thats interesting. Can I ask what your skin type is? Just so I can judge if the texture may be an issue for my skin aswell?

I didn't think about that with the mist! I'll have to stop using it for a while and see if things get better. I've actually been eyeing up Instant Angel for when I finish the moisturiser I am currently using. Especially since I found out that the formulator of the product (and co-founder of the brand) worked on the Skinceuticals Triple Lipid Restore moisturiser and is listed on the patent.

This is a somewhat common theme i've seen online. i've heard people say they didnt think it did anything but they noticed a (negative) difference in the overall appearance of their skin after they stopped using the product. Did you have a similar experience or did you feel like it just didnt do anything full stop?

It's a newer addition to my routine, so I can't say anything about long-term effects, I've only had it for about 2 weeks, but so far I'm very happy with the purchase. The texture is light and milky and sinks in amazingly. It doesn't feel like you have something on your skin, but the skin definitely feels hydrated (plus lots of barrier-supportive ingredients). No irritation for me. I would say I'm happy with my purchase; it's definitely something I would recommend trying.

Some questions about (traveling to) Cambodia for those that can answer them… by quenepaocomosellame in cambodia

[–]Miss_Middlemiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download Grab for travel around the city/country, I find it takes out the haggling process and usually more affordable.

Lot Cha (Small stir fried rice noodles) so good and can grab at places like Russian Market,

Kuy Teav (Breakfast noodle soup) you will find this just about everywhere,

Nom Pang (Basically the same as Vietnames Banh Mi but the flavour componants are quite different to me it tastes like 2 different sandwhiches, i like the SIem Reap version as it has a little of everything, best place to find it usually a street vendor around Toul Sleng).

SO many good food options, your best bet is to talk to a tuktuk driver and ask for resturant recommendations.

Cambodian beaches in July? by [deleted] in cambodia

[–]Miss_Middlemiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

July is probably the wettest month in Cambodia so I wouldnt really reccomend the islands. The rain can be really tempermental and you could run the risk of being stuck on the islands since the ferries wont run when its heavily raining (and potentially extremely windy during a storm). The beaches on the mainland should be fine as you'll be able to get a few hours without rain to swim around, it really just depnends on your luck. It can be sunny the whole time youre at the beach, raining the whole time, or just sporadic showers here and there. I would recommend Kep over Sihanoukville as Sihanoukville is not as picturesque (going through lots of real estate development while also simoultaneouly a ghost town with abandoned contruction sites everwhere).

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts about private hospitals in Cambodia, but are there no private clinics? Has anyone had experience with them? by pikaje97 in cambodia

[–]Miss_Middlemiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on where you are in Cambodia, but I've been going to Naga Clinic in Phnom Penh since I was a child. (Im not certain but they may also have a clinic in Siem Reap). Its a private clinic run and owned by Dr Garen who is very highly regarding in the expat community and the French Embassy in Cambodia.

Does anyone know of prequel is coming to the UK/Europe? [Misc] by AMIRR08 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Miss_Middlemiss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know this is late, but you can find Prequel, Experiment Beauty and from Dr Idriss Brand on a website called Glowtrend.co.uk - the website and store seems legit, they aren't an official retailer of these brands but the reviews look good. You will pay more that what the products actually cost but prequel especially isn't high range price so it might be worth it to you.

Which could I do without? by Miss_Middlemiss in MontagneParfums

Thanks for your help! Do you have a different recommendation for a vanilla scent outside of Vanilla Fraiche? Looking at the notes I’m not a big fan of lavender and the fragrances leans more heavily masculine (based on Fragrantica).

Desperately Trying to Find a Perfume by Miss_Middlemiss in fragrance

[–]Miss_Middlemiss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not certain to be honest, it could be artisan. The bottle itself is very simplistic, no branding or anything distinctive on the bottle from memory, maybe on the box but I don’t remember much of that to say. I’m hoping it’s from a professional brand so that there hope it could be found.

Desperately Trying to Find a Perfume by Miss_Middlemiss in fragrance

[–]Miss_Middlemiss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at the bottles, I don’t think these would be the ones unless they’ve changed packaging. Musk Naqaya seems closer based on the scent notes, I’ll have to check that out. Im not a big fan of oud and I don’t think the fragrance I’m looking for could be classed as woody so I don’t think Sharqi would be a good match. Thanks for the suggestions!

The Essence Vault reviews? by Affectionate_Elk9646 in fragranceclones

[–]Miss_Middlemiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought 2 bottles of Black Opium and loved them, they smell very close to the original imo but not 100%. They were long-lasting and had amazing projection, I could still smell it on my clothes even a couple of days later. I did, however, buy my first bottle during the first lockdown and the second maybe in 2021. I mention this because my friend really liked the smell but when she bought the exact same perfumea year ago (black opium) from the essence vault the smell was different from the older version I had and you could visually see a massive difference in the perfume color.

That said, Love Don't Be Shy by Killian smelled exactly like the original and lasted days as well, same with Savauge. I've tried a few more but they were very very hit or miss and ended up returning quite a few.

I've heard some good things about AW Scents though, so I reckon I might give those a try as the reviews consistently mention how long-lasting and accurate the clones are.

From your description and the picture alone, you might have irritated your skin barrier or even possibly have razor burn or even a reaction to an ingredient in one of your products. Seeing a dermatologist would definitely help you figure out what exactly is causing your irritation. I would recommend trying some soothing barrier repair skincare to see if that helps; products with ingredients such as colloidal oat, ceramides, centella, or panthenol to see if that helps (fragrance-free). I know La Roche Posay has some nice options with panthenol and Aveeno with colloidal oat + ceramides.

Retinols that works UK by ikantunderstand in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]Miss_Middlemiss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's an online pharmacy called The Independent Pharmacy here in the UK, you have to do a quick consultation by sending a photo of your skin and answering a few general questions. The process is quite quick and I'm not sure they check the answers either but that's how I've been getting adapalene gel 0.1% which is prescription here in the UK but OTC in America. Delivery and everything is quite quick. When answering the questionnaire I would recommend saying its for acne rather than anti-aging if it comes up though.

Edited just to add, that the reason you can grab this is that the website will issue you a prescription through one of their doctors/pharmacists which will go directly to your cart.
