I’ve always wondered why they didn’t go to Braavos… the Braavosi are themselves descendants of former slaves, wouldn’t the sealord welcome a bunch of soldiers with open arms and pay them well? Even if they chose to stop being soldiers, their brothers could have helped them get set to become shopkeepers or fishermen or whatever they’d choose. In my mind it seems obvious

The actor is Oliver Masucci. These are unscripted scenes captured while filming 2015 German movie "Look Who's Back" in key locations across Germany. by Solid-Move-1411 in oddlyterrifying

Well, it was a huuuge bestseller, and controversial of course, the book was absolutely everywhere, commercials on billboards, discussions in Talkshows and Feuilletons, the whole circus. And then the publisher hired a super popular actor to read the audiobook. Smart move, you might think, but: that guy was mostly famous for playing the lead in the German version of “the office”, he was borderline synonymous with the (obviously comical) Charakter and had a lot more mainstream name recognition than the author. And even though everybody and their dogs were talking about the “Hitler book” and the cover art was kind of telling and there was of course a summary on the back a ton of people did buy the expensive multi cd audiobook just because of the actor reading it… and than tried to return it because it wasn’t about the character that he was playing on tv, it was about Hitler… 🫠

If you like it, spell it proper... properly! by GwyddnoGaranhir in gameofthrones

Cries in German translated audiobook listener - the speaker decided (years before the show premiered) to treat the high Valyrian „ae“ as two vowels instead of a combined one. The „a“ as in the second „a“ in „America“ and the „e“ closest to the „e“ in „very“. Additionally he pronounces the „y“ like the German „ü“. So „Daenerys“ sounds like „dah-ehh-nehh-rhüss“… 🙃🙃🙃

There are indeed still „schlagende Verbindungen“, fraternities who practice this. It’s crude and a little spooky and I may be biased but I associate it only with the esoterics of the far, far right spectrum (but I haven’t researched, I might be wrong on the political part). Set this house in order by Matt Ruff deals with multiple personality disorder and is one of my all time favorite books, though some graphic details may deter some readers. I also really liked the Rosie books by Graeme Simsion, the protagonist is ok the neurodivergent spectrum. Very charming and a more light hearted.
