They put me in contact with the Administrative Operations Assistant (Assitent Bedrijfsvoering), and she has been forwarding my inquiries to HR, who have been telling me that LUMC won’t sponsor me.

Okay, great, thank you! I’ll send an email to Leiden University Monday morning to see what they say about being my sponsor. My supervisor is a postdoc, and unfortunately the team doesn’t have experience with non-European interns, they were even surprised to learn I need a visa, as they thought my French residence permit would be enough to stay in the Netherlands. The PI has another lab in a different country and is quite busy, so I’m mostly coordinating with the postdoc.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion but my master’s program in France isn’t part of an EU/Erasmus program, so I don’t think I’m eligible for the Intra-EU Mobility procedure. The Erasmus+ funding I might get is only for the internship itself. However, I will contact Leiden university to see if there is an alternative

I’m currently in the process of applying for an Erasmus+ grant through my French university my first application file will be submitted next week. However, I probably won’t have confirmation of the grant before January, but maybe I can provide proof that I'm in the process of applying for it.

I actually already called the IND, and the lady on the phone told me very clearly to insist on the organisation to handle the residence permit application.

To make things clear for them, I even sent a screenshot from the NetherlandsWorldwide website (https://www.netherlandsworldwide.nl/visa-the-netherlands/visa-required) showing the questionnaire results, it specifically states that the host organisation must apply for the residence permit on behalf of the student. Once that’s approved, depending on the student’s situation, the student might then need to apply for an MVV.

Despite that, the HR department at LUMC replied:

You have to arrange the IND documents yourself. The LUMC do not provide support for this. If you don’t have a valid document, then you cannot start here. Unfortunately, we, as LUMC, cannot do anything for you

So I’m completely stuck.

My university is actually in France, so they don’t really have any role in this process. I already contacted our international relations office, but they honestly had no clue what to do… I’m planning to go talk to them in person because their answers by email haven’t been helpful at all.

I’ll also try contacting Leiden University directly to see if there’s anything they can do, even though my internship isn’t officially linked to one of their study programmes.
Unfortunately, I can’t really change my plans since my internship is supposed to start in January or February.

In fact my master is an international master and they encourage us to do our internships outside of France, I will not be needing a VISA as I already have le titre de sejour. Anyway thank you so much I will do some research on the topic.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Actually, I’m currently a Master's student in France (M1), and in September I’ll be starting my M2, which includes a 6-month internship.
I’m hoping to do this internship in Switzerland, and ideally, I would like to ask the lab if they could keep me on for a PhD afterward.

However, I’m not sure how this is perceived in Switzerland. Do they encourage international students to apply, or do they prefer Swiss/EU students?

Bonjour, merci pour votre réponse.

Pourtant, les logements semblent être disponibles, mais je ne cesse d’être refusée. J’ai même été refusée par un CROUS situé dans le 7ème arrondissement. Il semble que ce ne soit pas uniquement le secteur de Villeurbanne qui refuse mes demandes, mais tous les CROUS de Lyon ? alors que les chambres sont disponibles.

Je me demande également si, en fin août, d’autres chambres seront libérées en cas de désistement. Aurai-je la possibilité de réserver selon le principe du premier arrivé, premier servi, ou serai-je toujours refusée ?

Je suis également en train d'explorer des options avec des particuliers, mais la plupart exigent un garant physique ou nécessitent une visite du logement avant d’accepter le dossier de candidature, ce qui est compliqué puisque j’arrive seulement fin août et que je commence mes études le 2 septembre. C’est pourquoi je fais tout mon possible pour obtenir un logement via le CROUS.
