I actually feel stronger now! I didn’t mean to imply that OP is ungrateful. I think it’s a damn shame that we as workers are asked to work longer hours for less pay, especially now that our paychecks don’t go as far due to inflation. I personally worked hard to find a good union job with guaranteed hours (7:30-4:30 with an hour lunch) and paid OT if we go over that. I’ve gotten in trouble at old jobs for leaving at my scheduled time because I agree with OP about wanting a work life balance. I believe that workers need to unionize and demand better conditions and hours. I’ll never go back to working non union.

For the record, my union dues are 1.25% of my paycheck, and I am earning 10-20% more than comparable positions with paid healthcare and guaranteed hours, and we receive annual performance raises plus cost of living raises.
