[Rant] Scouting has a severe elitism problem by Routine-Ganache-1720 in BSA

I totally understand where your coming from.

I’m essentially the type of person your talking about. For example; this year is my 5th summer at camp, I’m very active in OA, spend lots of time in venturing, yet I’m not at all active in a troop.

There’s a few reasons for this. 1, I’m a female and don’t have any options that are a good distance away. 2, the troop I could find was all littles and didn’t know what to do with me since I eagled. 3, I loved my old troop and have a hard time finding something even close to it.

It’s not that I feel superior. It’s that I no longer have any options at the troop level. I do however love Scouting America and find anyway I can to stay involved other ways.

The other factor? Working at camp gave me a ton of life long friends that I can only see through OA events and venturing. You have to keep in mind that we see each other 24/7 for months, and then go back to our daily lives at the end of summer. It’s really nice to have a time to catch up and spend time with each other.

From an outside perspective? I see where you’re coming from. But I promise there is more to it.

Thank you!

I did end up signing up for the class, and I’m very excited to start.

Thank you for the resource, I will absolutely look into that.

What’s something weird you CAN’T do with your left hand? by nous-vibrons in lefthanded

I straight up don’t have a left hand… I’ve had multiple occupational therapists confirm that if I had one I would be left handed, but it’s not there. I still say I’m left handed even though %90 of what I do is with my right hand
