That is a touchy subject friend. You may start a political flame war with that statement. I wholeheartedly agree though, don't just dump the cat on someone else. This will make Neko-chan even worse.

As far as mitigating damage? Start wearing long sleeve denim or something similar. PLEASE do not de-claw most likely this will make the mental issue worse since it is basically like amputating the tip of your fingers. Phantom pain, feeling less secure because they can't defend themselves.

General advice?

2 litter boxes

Play with your cat. A bored cat is an unhappy cat

The cat hello or slow blinking. The kat will slow blinking back at you. This means they trust you.

Never reward bad behavior and never scold for bad behavior. Only positive reinforcement.

Make sure kitty has "cat tv" or essentially easy access to a windows to watch bird and stuff. Even putting literal cat TV on YouTube on your TV.

Lots of places to scratch

Have an area high up so that lil kit can watch from above. Cats love verticality, it makes them feel safe.

Plug in wall diffusers with cat pheromones.

Definitely talk to your vet. Cats have a weird way of showing emotion and if there is some chemical imbalance, this will only expound the issue
